Good way to make a RB header a little quiter?
I will be getting a RB header in the next couple of weeks, and I want to know how to keep myself from going deaf. I have no cats, and a fart can right now. It was suggested to put a glass-pack somewhere in between the header and muffler. Will the Glasspack stand up to the heat? Should I change mufflers? I was also told a muffler off of a supercharged ford thunderbird from the 90's I believe.... will quieten things down. I must do this very cost effectivly.... limited funds... as always, or I would just go for a full RB exhaust.

See if you can find a muffler from a 2nd gen. I think they're pretty close to the RB muffler. I just got the full RB system installed last weekend and was surprised at how quiet it is. Wouldn't have minded if it was a bit louder, but still sounds pretty sweet.

With the header and only a fart can for a muffler, its going to be too loud. I have a stock exhaust manifold with a magnaflow muffler and fart can muffler and its just right. All I could suggest is using a large muffler such as a magnaflow in the center to quiet things down.

Even the stock baffled, triple walled muffler cant quiet a header.
Theres gonna be a buzzy 2 cycle ring-ding resonance that will make its way through just about anything but a RB muffler. The key to the RB is its volume. It actually doesnt have any baffles, its a straight through muffler like a glasspack. But it has a large volume of sound absorbing material around the core tubes.
BTW dont use a fiberglass glasspack,it wont last a week.RB presilencer,or some sort of stainless steel wool glasspack is the only thing that will hold up.In my experience, the RB presilencers dont do much silencing at all. Most of the magic is in the muffler.

RB muffler will quite it down, you would just want to do the inbetween pipe your self.
My setup is like that, RB hearder straight to the RB muffler, Sounds great and keep the noise to a good level.

I have the racing beat header, persilencer and muffler on my SE. It's very raspy and loud on acceleration, but good at cruise. My 84 gs had the RB heaader & presilencer (junkyard score, 30 bucks) and a magnaflow muffler. It sounded wayyyyyyy better on accel and decel, more throaty, but too much resonance and too loud at cruise. Best of both worlds, haven't got a clue yet.
