Good deal? bad deal?

We found an FB for sale. The guy is asking $1400, but will lower it to 1,000.

Good points:

-Excellent interior
-grey interior
-grey exterior
-Decent paint job
-garage kept
-sunroof doesn't leak
-GSL

Bad points:

-no exhaust
-front left fender damaged (needs to be replaced)
-cracked windshield
-not inspected
-possible original engine (146k miles on car)
-A/C was originally on car, but now removed.
-2 states north of here, and the cost and risk of police hassle to get it home.

...is this a good deal? I really want the car, however, it may not be worth the trouble, cuz we have a set income, and court costs are kinda high.

Thanks to my crappy title, it made me sound like a n00b.

I'd love to find out this is a good deal... and run with it.

Looks pretty good. There are some threads in the 1st gen FAQ on things to look out for with the 1st gens. A major one is rust near the rear wheel wells. Also pull the storage bins to see if there is rust there. I am sure there is someone close by who could set you up with an exhaust from their parts car. Or if you could find a friend with a truck and trailer, you could tow it home.

Awesome. Thanks. The guy said it was 99% rust free. The road trip there to at least look at her is worth it to me.

id inspect for rust first. dont trust the sellers word. if it all looks clear and it runs fine, buy it. it looks to be in good shape

I like it. If the mechanicals have been as well kept as the cosmetic appearance, I would buy it for 1k.

The guy says the "car runs good," but he also says he's not sure if it will make it all the way to NC because he's only driven it a couple miles since it was a project car. So if it dies on the way home, would it still be worth the $1000? This is all the information he has given us, so I don't know what else to look for, other than the said listed things in the FAQ.
