so i was getting a pulley out of my parts car when i noticed an extra pump under the air compressor looked at the steering rack and it said power steering.
the car is a 1985 gsl limited edition. i had no idea any 1rst gens had power steering. when i get some time i will swap the steering rack into my 84. i'll get some pics later

It is full power steering to the steering BOX I believe. There is no steering rack in the 1st gens as they are not rack and pinion but recirculating ball type steering.

Yeah, its accually the box thats power. The rack is the same old rack as all the other ones.

You have to change the whole box/steering colum to convert it.

If you want to part with that power steering pump, let me know.

pretty sure you're wrong. there is no reason why there wouldn't be both power steering and A/C

The PS equipped 12a cars are somewhat rare. Most of the FB's with PS were GSL SE's. Also, I am not certain of the years that power steering was offered on the 12a FB's, but I can say I have never seen a pre-1984 car with power steering.

I believe (though not 100% sure) the power steering equipped cars used different mounting brackets for some of the accessory drive components. One thing about the PS cars - the steering box has a slightly quicker ratio than the manual box. Search on these forums to get the ratios.

The only way a pre 84 RX-7 would have power steering is if it was swapped in from an 84-85. Pre 84 there was no power steering offered at all.

if your going to buy the respeed kit and convert to rack and pinion if you buy a power rack and pinion you can use the pump and have a powered rack... thats what I'm doing but there will ahve to be a little fab work to make it fit...
