Um....

If the noise sounds almost like a turbine jet at full thrust....

Yeah....my car makes the same noise.

I am assuming it has something to do with the starter.....since its only making that noise when you turn the key to START, and goes away when you stop trying to start it.

Are you sure it's not a loose fan belt!

Ran into the screech yesterday... It's the Starter's teeth not fully engaging the flywheel if I'm thinking of the same noise.. But it only happens sometimes here. And when it happens, it isn't actually turning the engine very well... So you're better off to stop, wait a few seconds and try again.

Ya it is either one of two things...

A loose fan belt or bad starter, either of which can leave you on the side of the road

I would replace the belts first, and if the noise persits then I would look further into the startert

Good luck

well, the starter has been replaced recently. it made thise noise even on the old starter. it turns the motor over pretty well i dont think it's that. and i only have one belt and it's new as well. i've had a friend try and turn the motor over and i listened around the motor bay and it's just weird. sounds like a high pitch squeel. it boggles me lol

I am pretty sure its actually the starter solenoid that is to blame for the noise. Not the starter. And if that is the problem it usually soudn smore like a grinding noise then a high pitched squeal. But from how you are describing it I am leaning towards a loose belt, have you removed the air pump?

all emissions are removed, only the main belt is being used and it's new and tensioned well. it's not too tight or loose.
