gasket question

All right i removed the ACV of my SE and i was looking around for a gasket and most were ~$10, which is completely ******* retarded for the size of the gasket. so can i use RTV? Im asking this question because somewhere I heard RTV on a rotarys intake was a no-no.

Do NOT use RTV, shell out $10 and get the replacement gasket. I had to get a new one but my parts guy gave it to me for free.

I dont know, I use rtv on everything but i give it a day to set up. Never set it and try to start it up right after or it will get sucked in.

i wouldnt use rtv either..unless u are going to block it off with a block off plate or something...idk if it works but if u try it make sure u get high temp and let it set for a couple of hours so it can dry....rtv is like a sticky substance that works as a gasket for some aluminum...its called rubber temp vulcanizing i think...idk...lol....but it worked fine for my block off plate...u sure they dint say using it as the intake manifold gasket was a no no?

^^^block off plates already made, just dont want to spend 10 bucks on what should be a $3 gasket. yeah im pretty sure, because i if it got to the rotar i could potentially gum things up

Room Temperature Vulcanizing sealant. basically a rubber that gets hard at room temp with exposure to air. there is also HTV which is High Temp Vulcanizing sealant. that was used on innertubes back in the day. class dismissed. lol

I don't work at your parts store, so I couldn't tell you. It isn't much though.

+1 for gasket paper. I got a 12"x18" roll for like 8$ at the auto parts store. Someone needs to make copies of all the gaskets we use and post the images up full size. Then you could easily transfer them to gasket paper and cut the gaskets you need now but didnt order yet..
