Fuel Deliver problems?

Ok so I recently picked up this 1985 GSL-SE with a 12a. It has a 12a pump, however Im thinking it still has the stock fuel filter for the 13b(i haven't had a chance to look).

My problem is this. It doesnt keep an idle, it tends to just shut off. If I give it a little gas, it tends to stay on, however to drive it, I have to rev it to about 2500-3000 rpm's to get it going in the right direction. Im thinking this is a fuel delivery problem, which is what it would be for 13b's, however I am no expert with the 12a, and even less exp with carbs, so I ask what could be causing this problem?

any help would be appretiated.

is it slow revving untill 3k? i had similar problems, replacing the filter helped but in the end i had to rebuild the carb. if it has no power till 3000 RPM's then is normal you might just have clogged main jets. mine did this, the problem was that the primarys werent getting proper fuel because of clogged main jets, but once i got the RPM's up and the vaccum seccondarys opened up the car went just fine.

I have plenty of power(or what i think is power for a first gen) to 3k, because i tend to shift there. I had the top of my intake open and i was watching and both jets were squirting...so im hoping the filter takes care of this situation...

So! in case anybody was reading. I replaced the filter and the car runs great. However, I found out earlier that i was only running on the trailing plugs as i blew out the distributor rotor...lets just say Im happy I work at pepboys...I spent some time troubleshooting...and i bought a new rotor cap...Tomorrow its time to time :-D

Are you sure it's a GSL-SE? They never came with 12A engines, only F.I 13B's. unless someone did the swap. Although I don't understand why they would downgrade the engine.

I bought the car from a guy who raced 12a's, and he had a 30k mile engine for his race car, that he put in when the 13b decided to blow some coolant seals. It still has the wiring harness for the 13b, however I like the 12a right now...
