gas mileage

this is for gsl-se owners, or anyone with exp. I am getting a consistant 260 to a tank. It is consistant through a whole slew of changes. I will list shortly however I would like to know if MAX7 or other se owners with the msd DFI have a similar gas mileage.
My only thoughts are that it could be my dragging rear brakes, MSD DFI, o possibly my pump putting out to low a pressure but the last seems unlikely. Putting the igntion gave me back about 40 miles over my tank, however now where near the 320-360 I used to get per tank. anyhow If any msd DFI owners out there have seen similar decreases in gas mileage please inform us I would like my 70 per tank back. Also I like the DFI feel to much to easily route the ignition back through the dizzy. So ijust need some consensus before I replace the rear calipers.

Gotta be the calipers!

My rear calipers were binding (not an -SE but still) and MPG was about 15-17mpg on the highway and the car didn't want to over 65-70, or 55 uphill. (as in, the cruise control would be set to 65, go up a hill and the pedal would go floered and the car'd slow down) I tried freeing up the rear aclipers, didn't really work, but I was driving one day and all of a sudden it felt like it grew another engine and MPG is up to about 20-22 highway. Also, when I come to a stop, I have to hold the brakes or yank the handbrake to keep the car from rolling, whereas before it would hold itself, even on a hill.

Of course, the REASON it freed up was because the pad material basically broke off And the caliper pistons won't turn back in either, they just spin when I use the caliper tool. Calipers are $46 apiece at Advance Auto for a 12A, dunno about 13B cars. Pads were really cheap, but they had to order them - apparently they stock the rear pads for GSL-SE but not for 12A cars.

Be sure your O2 sensor is still working. That will drag your MPG down if not working.

That's it?

I used to go to Advance Auto every Sunday morning to buy three bottles of 2-cycle oil. Enough to last me until the next weekend. One bottle was enough for one tank...

- PJ (That car averaged 220-240 miles to a 10 gallon tank, but my best was almost 300!)

In the winter I get about 17-18mpg and last summer I was lucky when I got 20mpg in mixed driving. I'm pretty sure my O2 needs to be replaced, but I can't get the old one out. Guess I'll have to get that RB header....

daaaang, I would kill for 20 miles to the gallon, right now I get about 12. I used to get 350 miles out of my 21 gallon tank, but the timing is a little off so I get 100 less. But that really doesn't help you any because I'm talking about my trooper, since I dont have an rx7 yet (hope to purchase one soon though).

My GSL-SE on a good day on strait highway driving would get 25MPG but in town screwing around 15-20MPG was good.
I have no idea how many miles to a tank, didn't like to let it get below 1/4. All I know for sure, Is I fill the 626's tank up alot less, hehe

Davo, you have me worried. I get 350-360 miles to the tank from the 12a 14.5 gal tank [the gsl.se is 16.6] being around 24mpg. My plan was to add a MSD system to get a better fuel consumption, hopefully 2-3 mpg. Yet you got a signicant drop when yours was installed.

Something is wrong. either the MSD propaganda is fiction or your RX developed a major problem when it was fitted.

I hope another MSD user can come up with a comment or even better, a solution.

My wife's F-150 gets about 14 in the summer and 11 in the winter. All time worst was 8mpg with it in 4wd locked for the whole tank of about 190 miles.
