Gas leaks from cap? WHY WHY WHY?
Gas leaks from cap? WHY WHY WHY?
Ok, for starters, I did do a search before I decided to post. I have a Weber setup in my 84 GS 12a, and have plugged the return line as there is no longer anywhere to connect it. After doing so, I thought it best to switch to a vented gas cap to reduce pressure in the tank. Maybe a mistake, seeing as how I now tend to leak gas from the cap whenever I fill up or if I even only fill about halfway up. Should I go back to a regular cap? Will the pressure be a problem if I do? Before the mods, I noticed the pressure hiss whenever I took the cap off. Just want to be sure I do a thing right, you know?
Hey Rx7Carl;
Can I do the same setup i.e. RB Holley.
Just plug up The Fuel Return Line.
I have read other threads that say to put a Carb Jet in the line so that there is a little air going back to the tank????
According to RB they say to plug it!
Awhile back I Faxed you the RB-Holley Instruction Sheets per your request.

Resuscitating an old thread here. I was just driving the 7 hard for about 20 mins, and as I was arriving to my destination, I was getting a smell of gas that is usually not there. When I parked the car I let the engine running, open the hood, and there was a gas smell in the engine bay. Inspected the pressure gauge in my FPR, 2 psi (a little low). Carb bowls, normal level. Shut the engine down, put the key on the on position to hear the fuel pump - which has been giving me grief from time to time - fuel pump sounds slightly different than normal. Open the gas tank cap, a considerable amount of pressure gets released to the air. Turn the engine over, pressure at the FPR's gauge is now 2 1/4 psi (what is set to). Ok. There seems to be a connection.
Then I went to the charcoal canister. The thick line is actually connected to the return line at the other end, since the return line at the carb is capped. So there is no actual vacuum line going to the charcoal canister, which might be something to address. Anyways, disconnected the thick line at the charcoal canister, and some gas poored out! thankfully I missed the header with the spill, otherwise...
Another factor is that it has been cold here for Cali, but that is changing and the temp has gone up a few degrees.
