RB exhaust interchange between `79 & `85??

I have an `85 that needs a complete exhaust, and I found a local guy that has a full RB system, but it's off a `79. I know RB lists different pieces for the 2 years, but will the `79 stuff physically fit the `85's chassis? I'm not concerned with hanger differences (have a welder and not affraid to use it) or emissions equipment (it's all gone anyways). Anyone know for sure? Thanks

No, both are 12a. Just the headers they should 5 different part #'s for the different years, plus 4 diffeerent exhausts, not counting the SE stuff. But they use the stock midpipe on all of them, so I'm wondering if they are all different due to the midpipe differences, or if they actually run a different way under the car.

im not sure about teh 79' but i think the 80'-85' as far as running the same they are but 83 has dual pipes all the way back,,,the 80's (i think) the over axle pipe goes over the axle then has another flange with a 3" pipe and flange of the muffler back which bolt up......hangers might be same if your lucky

I swapped my RB SP system over from my 79 to my 85, no problems. It only mounted at the block, and at the rear bumper though... make sure it's all tight!

As long as they are 12A, they can be swapped without problem. My RB exhaust was under my 1982, and is now under my dads 1980. No problem. As a matter of fact, they all had the same exhaust overhere from 1979-85 anyway. In the USA the exhausts changed, I believe, but the chassis is identical on all years (the underside I mean, bumpers etc don't matter here), so as long as you have a full exhaust there's no problem. If you want to mix and match, you'll need to look closer though.

The diffences are where parts connect. Some years had longer headers, some had duel pipes. Some went over the axle and then had a connectoer some had a connectoer before the axle.

If you have the entire system from the other car then you will be fine. Problems will occure if you are trying to install only one part from a different year. But it is nothing a hacksaw and welder cant fix.

just make sure you have the stock connecting pipe that matches the year the racing beat exhaust is designed for and you will have no problem.

The reason why the setups are mainly different is because the connecting pipe was different lengths in all the series
