Funny - Does this happen to you?

Ok,

I've had three offers, each over the 2k range to buy my RX7 on the spot and I havent been able to accept one in the past month because I love the seven too much.

Besides the point though, has anyone else had people call you because they saw a first generation rolling around?

My dad calls me today (he drives an rx8) with a 911 page...I'm thinking he got into a wreck or something but no I call him back and hes like a little child saying he parked to a mint first generation!

hehe, just a little un-needed information!

Had a guy pestering me last week about wanting to buy my car. At first, it was amusing, but when he popped off with "You'll get tired of it soon, and I'll end up giving you 3K for it", well that pissed me off. I decided to save the paper he handed me with his name and number. I plan to call him in a few months. Get his hopes up, and then tell him I am not tired of it, CLICK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually this happens to me quite a bit, in fact everytime I gas up someone has to come over and take a look at it. They tend to get a little curious why I am dumping Oil into my gas tank! A few years back I stopped in to buy some 4th of july fireworks, and the guy at the stand offered me the entire stand, and all his inventory at his garage if I trade him straight across. Every once in a while I get chased down by someone who wants to know what kind of car it is. The 7 just commands attention..........

Had a guy at the gas pumps tell me that was his dream car. I told him he should go buy one and he could get a nice 1st gen between $2-4k. Dirty look from his wife.

every autox i go to multiple people either A) tell me how they had an rx7 back in the day B) comment on the smell or sound of my car or C) ask for a ride because they want one. occasionally i get a note under the windshield wiper with a price and a phone number if i ever want to sell it and i wouldn't say my car is in amazing shape

I only hear "What Porsche is that" or "How old of a Porsche you got there". At least the lady in her 40s knew what it was, then walked outside to find she had a Miata.

I get compliments mostly. I did have one guy ask to look him up if I ever wanted to get rid of it. I told him I'd never sell it, and he said "I don't blame you. I wouldn't sell my '82 either"

I don't get offers on my FB...it's great mechanically but doesn't look so hot on the outside, but I do get people asking me if I wanted to sell my FC all the time.

One thing that DID happen today though, I was out in my driveway with the hood up flushing out my radiator, and a dude stops by the side of the road, gets out and says hello. Turns out he was driving by, saw the FB, and had to take a look at it. I'm not sure if he even noticed the FC parked out front.

I get stared at by everyone (I wear sun glasses when I drive so for all they know I'm looking straight), even when I'm not flooring it. It’s like…damn look at those lines on that car, they flow so good. No one likes my car with people my age, they don’t know anything about the engine and they think the paint looks horrible, which is true, it does, but I’ve gotten more interest about my car at the local hang out than the 1997 cougar sitting next to me that does 13’s/14’s and is about to do 11’s/12’s, my car draws attention badly.

I've had many people chase me down to ask what kind of car mine was, I was pulling out of work one day and I burned the tires and did a LSD Drift out of the parking lot and this white pickup was coming but I left him behind and shortly I see him flying behind me around the turn and almost loosing it, I've been in many bad situations in my Thunderbird were people get out and bitch at me for 'driving too fast' so I rolled my passenger side window up as he rolled up and slams on the brakes, he waves at me (again sunglasses) so he starts honking the horn so I roll the window down and he starts asking about what kind of car it is and if I wanted to sell it...hehe

OH, did I mention my dad bought a RX7 last night? I guess he needed a new hobby? Actually I think he wants a go-fast car because he doesn’t want to mess up the rx8 so we're planning on going to the track and racing each other and probably starting to make both of them major drag cars.

My Rex got stuck one time outside of a mufflershop because the idiot working on it for me didn't know how to start it correctly. Well, While I was under the hood bitching because it was flooded I got two offers to purchase it from people passing by. My wife was baffled because it four colors of paint (Blue, primer grey, Black and green) on the car from switches fenders and what not on the car. It looked like a total piece of crap! I told her see I'm not the only one the see the potential in this car! Not only that I get lots of people saying nice car and starting conversations about it while filling her up.

I recently sold a Spark Yellow '79 G model and I was flooded with calls for a week straight. Even now, days after the ad was pulled from the paper, I'm still getting calls. There's a definate demand for 1st gen RX's nowadays, since they're becoming slightly scarcer and passing that magical 20 year mark.

Strangest things that happen to me are when someone pulls up, rolls down their window or honks at me to do the same, and they say... "HEY, ARE YOU LONGDUCK?!?" True story.

I find that a lot of people have owned these cars in the past, and when they see one at the gas station, they want to come over and look at it again and remember what it was like when they owned theirs. I get a lot of comments like that,

On my third day of work, a guy walked into the store and offered me $6K cash right then and there on the spot. I turned him away...

My father said, and I quote: "I've put a lot more blood, sweat, and tears into that car than you have, and I have an attachment to it just as big as yours; but if I were there, I would have walked home if it put $6k in my pocket."

I just love my car too much...
