Slight fuel smell at start up and during warm up, and that is with rb header and strait pipe exhaust.

peace

Smelly (sweet sorta smell) while idling, but other then that I don't smell it.
But then agian, if I follow the 3rd gen guys around and a few more in our group with no cats I start getting a headache and burning eyes (like I've been on the computer for hours)

No exhaust smell at all inside the car.
RB header, mini-presilencer, stock pipe and muffler.

Actually, I never thought about this... But yes, there is a problem with my RB. I get a headache from time to time, and sometimes you can smell the fumes. Dry, irritated eyes I have had too. My dad sometimes drives my car, and he seems more sensitive to this than me. My wife also finds the smell pretty bad. Never thought it came from the header ( I have a RB streetport exhaust system, which uses a header and then twin pipes up to the end muffler), I was thinking of replacing all rubbers (doors, rear window) this winter...

Are you guys who are smelling exhaust fumes re-using exhaust gaskets or something? There should be no reason to smell any exhaust fumes if the exhaust system doesn't have a leak in it somewhere. Or perhaps your rear hatch rubber seal is not tight? Or maybe you're smelling leaked oil burning on the engine?Just a thought. -Mike

Mine is brand spankin new RB single pipe system, all new gaskets, new O2 sensor. Should be no leaks underneath but I'm gonna check this weekend to make sure everything is tight and sealed. I'm suspecting that maybe I have a fuel problem that is sending too much fuel into the intake, maybe stuck injectors or something. It does backfire occasionally as well, and it's loud.

So I guess you never drive your car w/the windows open in the summer?

Can't vote due to the above error message.

Still, I've not detected any fumes since installing the complete RB system. One gasket they sent me didn't fit that well, so it got replaced with a generic one, but still no probs.

Thing is, if there would be leaks (somewhere between engine and silencer) wouldn't I hear this? Ever drilled a hole in your exhaust before the silencer? Well, I haven't either, but I remember a car with rust hole in there, about 2mm large. Car sounded like some sort of tank...

I drive my car with the driver's side window open year-round, unless it's raining hard which is often in Oregon.
Kalifornians take note: it rains here a lot, you do not want to move up here! The economy is bad too, and the high-tech industries are in trouble! Stay where you are!

Hey, Norman.
Is your setup just a bit loud? Mine sure is. I'm already thinking of going to a full-length presilencer. -Mike

Update. I had an exhaust leak! Guess I forgot to tighten one of the nuts connecting the outlet of the presilencer to the stock pipe, and that's why I was hearing the raspy sound inside the car. But, I never smelled any exhaust which made me think that maybe the rear hatch seals are likely the major source of exhaust smell inside the car. It sounds much better now. -Mike

whoops, sorry mike, zipped past the "mini" part -i'm running the full size silencer and it is not loud at all. i love the sound when i am driving -inside the cabin, it is like a low rumble. standing outside, i would describe the sound when hitting the gas as "confident" -not the 24/7 "braaaap" you find on the roads in the summer (and even winter). the r/b set up makes as much noise as I want it to.

I was wondering about this also. Do those little vents on the side actually do anything or are they cosmetic? I was thinking about blocking them off and seeing if that made a difference. what do you think?

they let air flow out of the cockpit as you drive - air is brought in through vents and out through the B pillars

for the car to smell that bad, i think there has to be some sort of exhaust leak either up front or toward the middle ... it may be very minute ... but i there must be one. my car smells every once in a while (not RB exhaust) and it's full of holes ... i can hear it! my brother's car ... with full RB exhaust ... doesn't smell from the inside at all.

I have minor fumes that I can smell (see sig for mods) , but I voted for "I'm scared to go to sleep for fear I'll die", because I thought it was funny as hell.
