The carb is starting to go back together. It's taking shape again. Of the venturis that were sent to me, one fits in and seats 'ok', yet the other is loose as hell. What up with that? Is there something like a 'loc tite' sealant I should use. Obviously, 'loc tite' probably isn't the answer, but you get the picture.

That was a creative method toward remembering which jets go where! I can't believe you went through all that trouble. To get caught up here... yes, sounds like that carb has been run through before. Most of them have. Generally, if you can pop the screws loose without any trouble, then it's been rebuilt. My original carb was still factory fresh, so it took a beefy screwdriver and the hand of Zeus to get it apart.

The air pump diaphragm shape shouldn't give you any trouble. It seals where it needs to seal. Hmm... not sure if a sealant would be a good idea in that part of the carb. Then again, loose venturis aren't good either. Are you replacing them all or just the broken one?

Well, I had to replace two of them. I wanna say they are the secondary due to their size, but you would probably know better than me by looking at the pic on the previous page of the thread. Maybe I can collect some gunk that is still left on the carb and use it for a sticky solution.

BTW, if you never hear from me again, I wouldn't be surprised. I was having a little arguement in another thread and basically called a moderator a 'jackwagon', but maybe they just won't approve the topic of my post. Have you ever said something that you thought about afterwards...like a split second afterwards....and thought to yourself, "er...maybe I could have said that differently"? That what I thought RIGHT after I hit SUBMIT POST.

Off topic but I don't think calling a moderator a jackwagon is or should be a ban-able offense. If you are banned, just create a new user name and carry on.

In the picture, you had both secondary boosters out and the broken one you were holding was a primary. The primaries have two little cylinders while the secondaries have one.

Well, they just didn't post my new topic...meh.

I would have thought differently. the one I was holding in my hand went into the smaller bores...or at least came out of the smaller bores. Thats not to say someone didn't switct them accidentally a long time ago. But maybe the larger bores are for the secondaries...just seems odd.

Edit:

Checked mine against the pic on the Sterling site and mine is right....still, seems odd in a sense to me. But I am odd.

Ok, so finally finding some quality time to put the main body back to the throttle body (with the gasket, of course, I turned the main body upside down in my hand to make sure I was matching it up correctly, and the damned primary fell out....just fell right out. This is gonna be a problem. Did anyone think of a way to keep those in there?

The carb is done. Clean, but not reinstalled. I am having a fuel sending unit problema and have been trying to wrap my head around it for days. I will post after vacation as to whether or not I am a good carb rebuilder.

You guys were SO right. The banjo bolts went in without incident once I released the pressure of the main bolt. I took that sucker off too and cleaned it as well. The orangish/brownish fuel that was going through it stained it pretty well, but I shot some carb cleaner through it and lightened it a bit. Everything is connected, but I still have to put the gas tank back on. Waiting on a fuel sending unit from another member. I would just put mine back in for the moment, but I have kinda misplaced the 6 screws for it....oooops.

Thanks again for all your words of wisdom.

Well, I finally started it. It was a rough go, but after one vacuum hose and the something with the manual choke, I finally got it to run consistently. A couple turns of the idle screw and it was pretty well straightened out, but the carb still needs adjusting.

One of my major problems in considering starting the car was trying to find a fuel sending unit cuz for all practical purposes, mine didn't work. So while I had the tank out, I thought I should replace it. Well, I was wrong...it does work and I figured this out finally at 3 am this morning when I took 'er for a drive up the street to the local 7-11 and filled the tank.

Now we have another problem. When I stopped the car back in the garage, there was a puddle of gas under the car; fresh gas! I took a mirror and a flashlight and found out that the fuel sending unit, while it works, is allowing gas to push through the middle of it right where the resistor unit is mounted to the plate! Son of a bitch! It works, but it leaks; and the tank is full (well, it won't be in a couple of hours). Any suggestions?
