fuel sender is most likley the problem, but check for loose/corroded wiring at the sender

Yeah, the sender is probably corroded. The sender on my last tank was gone. This one's on it's way out, as it works fine until I'm below a half tank, then it acts as yours does.

i had the same problem in my car too!! it started acting crazy a few months after i installed a new fuel sender. I really thought it went out again. it turned out just being the harness plug behind the gauge cluster. it was loose!! all i had to do was push it in like 2-3mm and the fuel gauge worked perfectly fine. how it got loose?? i dont know!

changing the sender isnt that hard. Sometimes the little philip screws are hard to remove though.theres 6 screws i believe. imight be wrong. anyway, some of mine stripped so be careful. just jack up your car and remove the plastic cover behind your driver side rear wheel, youll see it.
im sure you can remove it without dropping the fuel tank but i decided to drop the tank a little to make it things a little easier. Theyre just two 14mm that strap it down. good luck!
