fuel pump w/ stock 12a fuel return?

I need to think about getting a fuel pump to feed my thirsty Nikki. I have a 12a car with a stock fuel tank and return, and I kind of don't want to change that out right now if I don't need to. I did some reading and my understanding is that a Mallory pump wants a larger return in order to achieve low enough pressure through a regulator.

Can I use one of those lower-pressure Holley pumps? That way I don't have to step down the pressure as much and presumably it doesn't need to bypass as much fuel through the return? Is that how it works?

What are y'all suped up 12a folks running for fuel?

why would you need a fuel pump? ive done some testing and the stock pump actually moves plenty of fuel.

i would test it first.

the mallory pump is nice because it has a pressure regulator IN it, and it works. the holley regulator kills flow, and pressure was all over the place too.

I use the Carter 4070, its a bit loud and has no regulator. I use an older Holley regulator that seems to work ok for me but have heard of issues with newer ones.

He has a hogged out Nikki. He said his primaries feel like they make more power than a stock Nikki does with all four open. You gotta feed the beast.

Carter pumps are difficult to install in the usual location under there. I have little experience installing Holly pumps. I do have experience with MSD and Walbro, which do fit well, but are EFI pumps and do require some stepping down of pressures which he wants to avoid. Not to mention the larger diameter return line.

I don't like Facet pumps but maybe they have one in a size and shape that will work.

on an 84-85 car there are some bolt holes in the frame rail for the GSL-SE fuel filter, and you can use those. i made a plate that used the stock rubber bits to mount to the car, and then the fuel pump mounted to that. it really worked out nicely

I used to run dual facets (got em from RB or RE as a kit). They worked well with the Dell and seemed good with the nikki. no regulator needed. I pulled them back off because I think one of them is weak. Replacements can be had but they are not cheap and you need 2 of the low psi pumps to get the volume right. I may go back to them someday, they were a lot quieter and I haev a slick mounting plate from the kit that replaces the stock one well.
