Question Fuel pump position

OK, my other thread didnt work so....

I just bought a carter fuel pump and it has an up arrow on it.

Do I need to install it with the arrow up, or can it be sideways?

No, it must be installed correctly. The motor windings are designed to sit in the gasoline (it cools them). The pump wont last if you mount it sideways. Dont let anyone tell you differently.

I think any fuel pump that has an external motor should be mounted with the motor up. To verify, call Carter. I know this to be true of Holley and Mallory because I did call and check with their tech reps. The reason is that the pump housing may leak some fuel. If the motor is mounted so fuel can get near the brushes, a spark from the brushes could cause a fire.

What I meant to say is mount the fuel pump in the direction indicated by the arrow on the label (in other words, this side up).

it has to be mounted upwards only...that is with the elecrical terminal facing down.

FYI: there are 2 types of carter pump....5 PSI and 7 PSI. with the 5 PSI, you dont need a fuel pressure regulator.
