Holley red, Carter, Mallory are all good. The Holley red is loud, The Mallory is expensive (relatively), but quiet... and according to RXDOCTOR, the carter is 30something bucks and quiet.

That's right, but I believe the Doc said they come with rubber isolators or some **** that quietens it down so it won't sound like my little red Jackhammer.

Holley I think is the most reliable. I put a Carter in my stock Mustang and it only lasted about 6 months. I replaced it with a Holley and it's still pumping strong 4 yrs later. The Carter is definitly cheaper, but remember you get what you pay for.

I am also in the middle of changing out a dead Carter fuel pump on my 85 7. I'll be putting a Holley on her too.

I have no experience with the Mallory pumps.

hope this helps ya.

Carter is good and the rubber makes it not sound like a jackhammer, but the little bastard WHIRRS!!! At least you know that it is working.

You will need a FPR as well.

Depends....the old style pulsing Red and Blue Holleys are relatively cheap, but also loud as hell and essentailly the same design since the 70's....their newer models finally made the move to gerotor technology (which the Mallory pumps have been all along, I might add...) and now you're back in the same price range as the Mallory, but without the extensive field "testing" and experience that Mallory has garnered having made the pumps that way to begin with....

David, i didn't say it was $30.00. i said it was inexpensive, lol. There are different
Ratings of the carters. Those of you you have had them fail must have gotten the lower end. I have never had one fail.
Riceburner. You can use your Se pump and get a FPR thru Summit racing to bring the pressure down. rx7doctor
The rubber isolators that come with the carters help. More for insulation use a piece of rubber about 1/4 inch thick and mount it between the frame and the pump.

Kind of off topic, but I'm getting a Mallory Comp 7 and a Holley FPR soon, and I was wondering if the fuel pump could have a remote switch. I've got this weird love of switches, and I was kind of hoping for another addition to my row of them. Plus I'd like a couple of things that you have to switch before you get to the start button

So, I'm guessing that the stock pump is wired to start when you turn the car to "on", so there a way that I can just route it to a switch?

Sorry Doc, I didn't recheck to make sure... I guess I remembered the holley red in the 40's and put the Carter as cheaper in the 30's. At least I got the rubber insulation part right

i did this, i literally ran wire from my fuel pump to a switch in the inside of the car, with a 15A fuse and wired it all to the battery,

Another Way to Run Wiring without any Restrictions From Draining Power i.e. Currents i.e. Stock Set-Up is Spending $28.95 for a Painless Fuel Pump Relay Kit item# 50102 and you will have a setup that includes the Relay-Switch & Circuit Breaker & a ShitLoad of Wires 10ft X3 so you can wire it anywhere.
Took me all but 1hr to do.
I have a 84GSL everything you can think of RacingBeat Set-Up.
My Mallory #110 Fuel Pump & 4309FPR was all over the place w/gauge attached to the windshield until I did this Upgrade.
I had tried 3 different Fuel Pressure Gauges & 2 Fuel Pumps to find out in the end that it was a current problem that was effecting my fuel problems and not the Pump or FPR.
I even went as far as to replace the Fuel Tank and everthing i.e. All lines upgraded to 3\8 Lines and a Mallory 3140 Full size Filter and of Course a Russel inline Filter after the FPR and Before the RB-Holley StrretPort Carb....

Best and most Painless $28.95US ever spent.
From Idle to WOT 6P.S.I. Constant=RB Holley StreetPort Set-Up
I'm sure any other aftermarket set-up would benifit from this Upgrade!
