Fuel Injection Help PLEASE!?
hi, my name is Mitch, i have an 85 GSL-SE (13b)
(first of all, i have NOOOOOOOOO idea if im posting this in the right spot.. there are so many threads! sorry to the moderator if im not... thx)
if you want to long story, please feel free to email me, and i'll tell you.. but..
long story short, i took the old injectors out, which was a huge pain in the *** so i found out very quickly. i installed new injectors, they are the normal stock 680cc ones.
the reason for this was because it was running really really rich, and puffing out way more white smoke than it should... the guy i bought it from said i would need a complete tune up and or injectors...
the smoke is not from water leaking into the block, which could cause white smoke.... the oil pan has no water in it. (or oil now thanks to a leaky oil pan)
anyway....
i reattached ALL of the hoses that i took off (which i conveniently labeled with letters and numbers with masking tape to remember where they went) to get the intake off, all water lines, all vaccuum hoses, all fuel lines, elec. etc.
the injector that was closer to the bumper did not seem to fit in as far as the one towards the cab did, but i could not compare this to how it was before, because when i pulled the fuel rail up, one of them came up with the rail, and the other stayed in the engine block so i dont know if they were supposed to be uneven or not.. also, the inside of the injector holes did not look the same previous to putting the injectors in.. it DID cross my mind that the O-ring could still have been in one of the hole of the bumper side injector, but there was none... in fact, i dont think there was one on that injector at ALL.. and maybe there isnt supposed to be "?"?"?"?"
i put o-rings on both of the injectors, put it all back together, all hoses etc, and started it up, and the first time, it cranked right up after about 3 revs and ran fine for about 10 seconds and died... complete and sudden death, like turning the ignition off would do... not sputter and stall and die...
the next time it ran a little rough, assuming that it probably flooded the engine when it died which made it obviously a little harder to start the second time, and died after a few seconds.... there is no exact time variable that it decides to die, but even if i REV the engine it will still die...
if this were a carbourator, i would say that the floats need to be adjusted..
the idle is fine but it just... dies.... do i need to reset anything? do i need to adjust something?
and how do i do it???????
previous to the injectors, it bnackfired like crazy, spit and sputtered, and wouldnt really run well at normal idle until about 5 minutes after turning it on keeping my foot on the pedal.. i changed the spark plugs and it at least ran at itdle, but still backfired spit and sputtered when raving it... now that the injectors are on, not a single backfire while it was running for each 10 sec +/- interval.... so i know im doing SOMETHING right....
can anyone here lend me a good piece of advice other than to take it to a shop? at this point i would have to HAUL it to the 1 shop in austin tx that will actually WORK on this car, and that is much to expensive between the two..
and by the way, i have 2 extra 680 cc injectors that i purchased.. i'd just as soon keep them as extras, BUT... if anyone is in need i'll sell them to them for what i bought them for and shipping....
a salesman somewhere at one of the companies who sells them way overpriced modified refurbished ones said i needed 4..... @$$hole... so i bought 4 from another company who didnt tell me any different because they assumed i knew i needed 2 and wanted two extras.. he was kind of surprised. but, didnt question it.. anyway, if anyone needs 2, please let me know...
with all honesty, this is the first time i have ever attempted to mess with fuel injection.. i know my way around a 750 holley double pumper on a chevy or ford v8, but havent ever messed with fuel injection.. so all the help possible is well accepted...
thanks

Welcome to the forum.
don't know how much reading you have done. In my sig line is a link to the online FSMs and read the FAQs. It has a good trouble shooting section.
I don't remember if the SE has the stepped injector holder or the flat one. If it is the flat one, they will sit at the same height. During start, the fuel pump is run through one side of the pump relay. Once the key returns to the run position, the fuel pump is energized by the afm door being open.
Download the FSM and and go through the trouble shooting flow chart.
