Fuel filter.

Ok, so I own a GSl SE, and I can't find the fuel filter so I can change it, I hope some one has a picture of where it's located because the chilton manual is very vague with it.

It is located just in front of the left rear wheel near the frame.

Doc, I'm just curious here. But all F.I. cars I've seen used a larger cannister filter located under the hood. Does the 7 mount the filter in the same location for both carb and F.I. versions?

Close Kentetsu, Where the carb'd version usually attaches to the fuel pump mounting bracket via that spring clip. The FI models mount to the left of that on the frame portion with a securing bracket that keeps the filter attached.

The 2nd gen models moved the filter up front. They are located along the frame on the left front near the front tire.

I can help you with that because I just changed mine. I also own an -SE. You're looking for this:

It will be right in front of the gas tank, near the left rear wheel. Can't miss it. Also, when you change that out, remove the main rubber hose going into the left side of the fuel pump. Inside that hose is a cone-shaped screen filter in there. More than likely it is almost covered in gunk. Get a really skinny screwdriver and carefully clean it out. Remember what direction that screen filter was facing for when you put it back in!

You should have 4 copper washers when you get the fuel filter. If you have 3, reuse one of your old ones from the previous fuel filter. The fuel lines going into both ends of the fuel filter require a copper washer on the top and bottom of their banjo fittings. Or, that thing will leak. Tighten them up as best as you can to ensure they seal properly.

I believe the wrenches I used were 17mm, 16mm, and I believe a 3/4 wrench (for the main hex heads on the filter itself). Just make sure you have a good set of wrenches.

Welcome to the forum and the Darkside. While the Chiltons is OK, along with Clymer's version, the best resource is the good ole FSM. In my sig line is a link to the online FSMs, carb manual, etc.. Download whatever you need and begin your rotary education.

This is an online course, not certified by any recognized educational institution, but there are more than enough online proffessors to help you out when you get stuck on a problem.

Fwiw, the HP FI fuel filter on the 2nd gens is even harder to find. It's located on the driver's side frame rail, just below the firewall.

thanks every one. So that's the fuel filter, I bought a new one and it looks nothing like that, I have seen it but I didn't figure that it was the filter itself since I was looking for a simpler looking unit. Did you clean the unit or get a new one? The one I have is a plastic type thing with two hose inserts but it looks nothing like that. Should I get the same specific filter?
