front sway bar removal

I am upgrading my 84's suspension with re-speed coilovers and the re-speed front swaybar. I ahve already finished the rear and took the rear swaybar off, I have the strut assemblies out of the front and before I put the new components in I want to get the front swaybar out to replace with the re-speed unit. I'm kind of hung up on the brackets that hold the bar and tension rods in place. First of all, all the bolts are mega-tight even with pb blaster in use, also the nuts on the other side of the bracket look to be impossible to get a wrench around. Do I need to remove something else to make these accessible? I was hoping there might be a trick to make this easier, everything else so far has come off without any problems..

You will not need to remove those bracket to remove or install the the bar if you trim the thin piece of metal near the hole. The "web" if you will. This must be done to install the ReSpeed bar anyways.

Just remove the 1 bolt each that secures the pivot bushing blocks.

With that said, a air gun or breaker bar on a large ratchet normally does the trick.

The top nuts on the tension rods brackets are welded in. You'll probably need a 1/2" impact to remove the brackets.

I managed to break one of those when I put my RB bar in, so be careful.

What Billy said. Grab a 4 1/2 inch angle grinder and a cutoff wheel, then cut out the small section of metal that will enable you to remove the bar without removing the bracket. You can grab an angle grinder at Harbor Freight for about 20 bucks if you don't have one, a very usefull thing to have anyway.

So either way the brackets will need to be trimmed to fit the new bar? I believe I have a grinder, time to let sparks fly... thanks for the help!
