Your Input Needed

Hey guys, I have some questions regarding a couple of things....

First off, I'd like to have someone who has DONE the 1st gen N/A to Turbo engine swap to call me so I can get some things answered. (trans, driveshaft, rear end etc etc...) my number is 806-283-3888.

You can see the pictures as they go up on the thread...

Best regards,

David

silly question why not turbo the 12a?

that's what I'll be doing with the 79, if I ever want to go back original I would bascially be able to just drop in a stock engine

My understanding is that it's a huge headache and more expensive than the swap, is that wrong?

That is true and not true. You can turbo a 12A with about the same or less than a TII swap, but it is a pain and you will have to port it to make it up to par with a TII, and the TII will have more "room to grow" if you know what i mean.
Thanks, Wyatt

Thanks Wyatt,

I know what you mean with room to grow.. I planned on starting out mild assuming I'd turbo the car, but imagine that I will end up going much more extreme in the future.

Again, anyone done this swap, please call me before my brain explodes! just kidding, but really I'd love to hear from you!

it sounds easier to turbo a 12a but if you dont have experience it can turn into a headache with alot of tuning, problem solving and engineering.

I tried it.. I semi failed (carb was too small for my engine) and I believe that a TII swap is definatly easier.. plus people are more willing to share info on the swap than turboing a 12a

Oh don't get me wrong finding info on the TII swap appears to be easier, but after watching one of our local guys going 13B in his GS (man it came out sweet) and the headaches he had I'll stick with the 12A. The dialing in of the fuel sytem is the part I least look forward to. Also I would have figured someone would have a custom exhaust manifold for a 12A to say S4 turbo available, but I have not had any luck finding anything so it's apppears I'll have to come up with a one off piece.

I quess the question is where do you want to end up and/or how much fabrication are you willing to invest your time in
