Front Brake Calipers - '84 GS
I have a pair of rebuilt front brake calipers for a G/GS 12a car. The issue I have with them is that the thread where the brake hose attaches is incorrect. The Mazda brake hose connection is a metric, but the thread in the calipers appears to be some kind of SAE thread.
I know a lot of the refurbished calipers come with an adapter that screws in between the hose and the caliper. Does anybody know what size adapter I need to make these work?

That caliper has a heli coil repair insert in it. You need to use a thread pitch gauge to determine the size of the insert to figure that out. Measure size and thread pitch of brake hose threads. Once you get the info you can decide which way to go. I would replace the old hose and figure thread/pitch of threaded end. I would then use a pic and unwind and pull out existing heli coil insert and install one that matches threads on replacement hose. The brake hose seals to caliper boss with a copper crush washer-no adapter needed.

Gah... that sounds a lot more involved of a process than someone as lazy as I am wants to get involved with. Haha! Unfortunately, I don't have a heli coil kit and until right now have never needed one.
I bought these cheap to have as an emergency set of spares for a Lemons car. I think I'll just send them back and avoid the headache of trying to re-thread them.

The eBay seller issued me a refund for the defective calipers and allowed me to keep them rather than send them back. So after borrowing a set of thread gauges from a friend, I found the correct adapter required for these to make them fit the Mazda brake hose. Turns out they aren't SAE, but a different metric pitch. I guess that's why I couldn't find the right fitting.
The brake hose is M10 x 1.0. These refurbished calipers are often threaded M10 x 1.25. (I'm assuming some other car out these uses the same caliper, but with a different sized hose).
A company called BrakeQuip makes an adapter that screws between the two. Part number BQ41. They can be purchased from places that sell hydraulic fittings and brake lines.
Anyway, I thought I'd follow up on this in case anyone encounters this same issue and stumbles on this thread. This part provided an easy fix that didn't require a helicoil, I just added a crush washer on each side.

That would probably explain what the issue was. These were most likely for an earlier car but listed as fitting the 81-85. It seems like ordering brake parts for these cars is always a bit of a gamble. I often see things listed incorrectly in online parts catalogs. It's even more difficult when there isn't an obvious difference in a photo.
