it appears i can get a new idler arm, i doubt it's worth the effort though, i've allready replaced the bushing and i didn't find any abnormal corrosion of the arm itself

Yea, not much there for the first gens except they have a better more rust resistent idler arm for the early models. A different story for the 2nd and 3rd gens though. Why am I not surprised?

Uhh...Actually the neither the 84 or 85 have any recalls...so you can't have the only year with no recalls.

Technically speaking, the recall for 79-83 models ended with cars built before 03/01/83, so the later 83's also had no recalls. Guess mine falls into the no recall section too, as it was built in 03/83.
I kinda doubt many 79-83 cars still have the original idler arm, thereby nullifying the recall eligibility.

I believe that once a recall is issued, it must be honored regardless of the cars age or mileage. This is mainly for safety items, such as steering/braking components and safety restraints. Would certainly be worth looking into.

Would you trust a Mazda mechanic with your car?

Not with the engine i wouldn't.

Also, since we're on the recall subject, doesn't Mazda have a lifetime warranty the seat belts?
