Can you run Synthetic oil in a 1Gen?

 

Absoutly NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

I think the generally accepted theory is that since synth doesn't burn completely clean (leaves a residue), it's no good to use unless you block off the Oil Metering Pump and run premix...which is even better than the stock set up by that logic because it's engineered specifically with clean burning in mind.
Theoretically, the residue would cake the side seal springs and apex seal springs (I suppose), but the damage is two fold; Aside of tolerances obviously being messed up, the residue will hamper consistant cooling of the seal springs messing up the temper.

I have yet to read a discussion where someone with engine buildng experience has actually seen this, and can prove this to be true.

 

I run full Mobil1 15w50 synthetic...............................but of course I premix.

 

This question is as old as our cars... There have been many arguments on the ups and downs of using synthetic oil. Personally I use it (with the OMP) and have not had anything to complain about in 2 oil changes, but it's still pretty short term. You can do a search and read up on all the different arguments people have had before and then make your decision based on that. Do not however use it to break in a new rebuild and I would also not switch over if you engine is very high mileage.

I'll second that. I used Castrol 20w50 for the 1st 1000 miles or so and have been using full synthetic since. Still no problems.

 

bullocks! Synthetic is best. As long as you've removed yout MOP.

 

I ran Synthetic in my Supercharged car. I think it ran a lot cleaner, but decided to change back to Castrol, only cause Superchargers use a lot of oil, and it was getting a bit spendy @ almost $7.00 a Qrt.

 

I'm running Royal Purple 20w50 with no problems. I just disconnected the OMP rod and I am now running premix.
