Find out why it quit running first. A toasted engine with an auto tranny isn't worth much.

Check the backside of the pumpkin, see if it has the lsd lube only sticker. Don't recall if lsd was an option on the autos or not.

LSD is available on the automatics. Both GSL and GSL-SE. I pull my LSD diffs only from autos. They tend to be less beatdown.

Good point on the lsd's.

Check the coolant, change the oil and fresh fuel. You may need to drain the fuel tank first, and changing the fuel filter wouldn't hurt a bit. Good chance the carb will need some work since it has sat so long.

The lsd in my auto '83 is in far greater shape than the lsd in my '84 simply because the people who owned my '83 baby drove the thing around everywhere. My '84, being a five speed, was beat to hell all over the place. Yet another reason why I want to put the engine and transmission into my '83.

Anyway, I say buy it. The rear end would be worth a good deal of money alone. Of course after driving both an automatic and a five speed FB, I have to say there felt to be tons more power in the five speed so I would recommend swapping it to a five speed after you do get it running if you are going to go that route.

The route I went was to pull the engine out of my automatic FB, and try and sell the chassis with both the auto transmission, and a spare five speed transmission. So far no luck on that sale locally. I'm still debating officially putting it up for sale on here.

lol You'll be wanting to shift it like crazy. It will have no get up and go at all. You'll be putting it in first, pushing it into second, and then finally drive just because it is that much slower. At least mine was.

If you can't get it started, do a ghetto compression test right there on the spot. Pull a plug out of each housing, one at a time and crank it over. If you don't get 3 even puffs from each housing, it has major problems. 200 would be the highest I would pay if the compression test fails. only if it is rust free. If there is bin rust, 100.

The FAQ section on "my car dun don't start" has got it covered pretty well....if you didn't crank it right off the bat after it sitting all those years, you prolly flooded it...please tell me you changed plugs, plug wires and the dizzy cap and rotor before you tried to crank it...

Along with fresh gas, and a new fuel filter. If you think it's flooded, pull the plugs and check them, if they are fuel soaked, clean and dry them good.

If it sat long enough, you might as well pull the carb, clean and rebuild it.
