sa22c was the designation for the first two years. After that Mazda used the fb vin number on North Americam specification cars. I have a rhd 85 model with the sa designation. Its equivalent to the 85 gsl-se but with a European specified 12a 115hp as stock, and the 83-84 gsl dash.

I hace just checked, the Mazda stamp on the car is SA22C with the engine stamp 12A. My government registration has it as sa22c-- must have been a lazy typist!
