float bowl problems, just installed a carter. HELP

OK, I just installed a carter pump and a holley 1-4 fuel pressure. I researched this well and did all the tricks (relay with 14 guage wire, bigger fuel filter etc).

so I got everything hooked up and I was ready to start her up. I turned the regulator way down and started the car up. It ran for a few seconds and died. I started it again and ran it up.(no choke)

I started to mess with the pressure. as I turned it up it seamed to idle better. It seamed like I had it at 3,4 pressure (no guage).

I drove it for awile and then wound it up (seemed to have less power). It leaned out pretty bad. (I know when it leans out because it will idle bad from the toasted plugs after it leans out)

This whole time I was watching the float bowls, and every time I looked the window it looked like it was empty. I cranked the regulator while the car was running and still it seemed like they were empty.

Do I have to adjust the float bowls or something, what should I do.

Installing new fuel pump would not affect the float level. Clean off both float bowl glasses and take another look. Be sure theres good light to see.

If the float bowls really are empty, and theres no gas leaking from carb, pump, or fuel line, I say turn the fuel pressure all the way up and give it a go. Tune from there.

is it possible that I put the reg on the return line. I put it on the the line that goes from the bigger metel line to the fitting that is closest to the carb body.

The regulator goes on the return fuel line on fuel injection. Is it the same on carbs. That would explain it alittle.

There windows on BOTH float bowls,

How do you see the back one.

Use a mirror to see the rear sight glass.

On carb setups the regulator goes on the inlet side, not the return.

yeah ... the regulator goes on the inlet side

and just for the record, you'll get a crappy idle if you're flooding it out, too. i mean, couldn't it be possible that your windows are just too full, not necessarily empty?

when I looked in the carb there was condensation (gas)on the butterfly valves.

if pressure is too high then I wondet why It didnt flood.
