a little problem
OK I have my car all put together and am going through all the lights all work except the low beams on both headlights. Brights work fine and so does the highbeam flash. I do have one open circuit , the interior dimmer switch , could this be the problem . I thought that they were on different circuits. Or could this just be one of those freak instances where both low beams blew at the same time?

Light in the middle is your lows. It sounds like your high beam ON switch is not hooked up right. The flash-to-pass brights (pulling towards you) proves that the brights work, just not when you actually try to turn them to the ON position.

Try taking the switch apart and have a look. The contacts might just need cleaning. Be careful though, there's a couple little bearings inside that are real easy to lose. Trust me on that.

i had the same problem, my low beams WONT work. Forget screwing around with the dam thing, replace it. GO to your local Mazda dealer and order one. I did and it only cost me $35. All you need to replace is the switch, dont order the WHOLE thing. The techincal name for it is the "combonation switch," or "dimmer switch." That's offical mazda terms, incase the dealer you order your parts from is stupid.

83-85 are the same. I had an 83, 84, and an 85 GSL-SE. The switches are the same. If you have a donor car, you may be able to rebuild the switch. You might have to replace the lock cylinder on the newer models. It's riveted in place. Your best bet is still to go buy a new switch. I was able to resurrect my switch on my 83 with parts from another (unknown) Mazda switch. My high-beam position still didn't work, though.
Good luck.
Good luck.
