Flat Black Spoiler (Pics Not 56k Friendly)

Painted my factory spoiler today. Flat black keeping with my black and white combo.

Sanded the surface with 120 grit, than blew off all the dust, followed by a whip with alcohol on a towel. Taped everything off.

Before

Prep

First coat.

Final coats.

Drying

Done

Looks like it turned out ok, but if it were up to me, i would have taken the spoiler off and shot it off of the car with some higher quality paint out of a gun.

looks pretty good. I would also take it off the car then spray with a paintgun.

The time you took to mask it off, you could have had it off the car.

On the third pic with all the paper of the car, it looks like you have some light spots, does it need a couple more coats?

Now I wish that my parts car wing was in better shape.

No, it is covered evenly with about 4 coats.

It was still drying in those pics, so the darker spots weren't cured quite as much as the lighter areas.

There was no need to remove the spoiler and use a paint gun (which I don't have)

It has a nice even coverage, with no runs or flaws.

It is certainly different and nicely done, better black than white. I'm trying to like it but don't you think it distracts from the classic lines of the stock body? Here's my white 84 GSL:

Also, does it fill up with water when it rains?

Nice job!

No, it doesn't fill with water.

I think the cars without spoilers look more classy, but the spoilers make 'em look more aggressive and racey.

^^^ I sprayed it with Wet'N'Black tire shine, and it made it more glossy, and into a darker satin black.

And the IMSA front would be nice.

Well it was used 120 grit, so it wasn't very rough. You know how sand paper gets smoother the more you use it? It didn't leave any gouges or anything. Plus I didn't prime it, so I wanted the paint to have something to grab to. I wet sanded my whole car with 2000 grit and it made my car a lot glossier (after I waxed it) so i don't thing I would use 2000 to try'n give my paint something to stick to. 400 is the smootest I would have gone.

2000 grit is for final wet sanding and polishing metals.

Close ups. The car is went from rain, so I wiped the spoiler off with a rag. Might look a little streaky from that.

How about some close ups of those stock rims? I want to get a better look at how you painted them. I'm thinking about doing mine the same....

No problem mate. I wrote a tutorial on them, here's the link.

It'll guide you through everything.

I painted my Mariah Spoiler Kit & Rear Wing Flat Black to start and it did not look right with my Paint (Original I Might Add), so I sanded everything down and went with sikkens Auto Paint.
4-coats Primer
3- " Paint
2- " Clear
Future Plans include 2-Tone on car. Thinking of going Half Black and Half the Original Color. This way I don't have to repaint the Engine Bay or the Door Jams.
Also to buy the Carbon Vented Hood when it becomes available.
For now I just may Paint from the Side stripos down to match the Fiberglass.
Everyone says Leave it alone! I think it looks Weird now.

With your Targa Band the Flat Black looks pretty good.
