First time RX7 owner!!

Hey everybody. Just picked up a nice 85 GS. Seems like people get a lot of help on here so I decided to join! Car doesn't have any problems except a clogged cat converter. Would it sound goofy if I gutted the cat and left the stock muffler? Because I'm broke now.

First off, congrats on your purchase! Its a sickness and an addiction so consider yourself warned. I've owned 34 RX-7's in the last 17 years...so yeah.. At any rate, pics, pics, pics!!!!!! Do you know any of the car's history?

The car will sound fine with a gutted cat. There are three in a series on your car. Chances are the first two failed and clogged the main cat.I'd take them all off and see what's going on. Are you sure they're clogged? Are you hearing and feeling backpressure? If the're clogged, often times it will sound like a vacuum leak and there will be little exhaust pressure from the muffler's tips. Should be plenty of pressure coming out of that muffler. Keep us posted!

Yea I would pull the cats and gut them. I don't know if you have inspection stations or not but it probably won't pass after you do that. Might have to put aftermarket ones on

Welcome aboard, new guy!

The thing about cats is that they're necessary if you have emissions testing in your county/state, and harder to find in working condition. I'm not the only guy here that runs a Racing Beat street header and collector/presilencer 99% of the time, and swap in our stock cats to pass a test. Plus, you'll get better performance in the meantime.

Let us know how we can help you out, and realize there's a tone of infor already here under search, but go ahead and ask if you don't find it right away.

It does look pretty clean. I think I've seen this one somewhere - the white roof and mirrors stand out. Nice find.

Theres a lot of rotor heads all around you, especially in Asheville. I think if you get on the book
of faces theres probably a page where they all post up. You should plane to go to DGRR, if only
for the day Friday or Saturday. Its only an hour from you down by the gap.
