First Start of Rebuilt. Which way does idle adjust screw turn?
Found conflicting posts on which way the idle adjust screw turns. Then found this post that says it changes direction right around when my vehicle was manufactured. Engine is not running so can’t just see what happens, and want to increase idle on first start to help keep it running but don’t know which way to turn (literally). Or do as the man says and turn it in clockwise until it stops then turn it counterclockwise 1-1/4 turns? Thanks!
that is way too confusing. you really shouldn't need to mess with the idle speed screw, just start it, and play with the mixture screw, it should be fine.
the mixture screw basically closes off the passage as you screw it in, so tightening = leaner.
Those instructions did seem a little overcomplicated, but if you still want to raise the rpm then turn the screw in. "Right turn Clyde" looking at it from the driver's side.
if you had messed with your idle mixture screw, a baseline to start with is have it turned clockwise in all the way until barely snug (you don’t want to crank/torque on the screw), then back it out counter clockwise 3 full turns.
for the idle speed screw, it is literally a screw that when screwed in pushes on the throttle linkage assembly thereby raising up the engine speed. My starting point for that is with the throttle linkage assembly at its normally closed position, i have the idle speed screw just barely touching the linkage.
