Is the first Generation rx7 a full frame car or is it a unibody?

Unibody.

 

I can't think of even a 70's Japanese car that was body on frame.

 

yeah, unitbody has been around since at least the 60's. my 63 Falcon is unitbody.

 

The unibody was invented and patented by Lancia in about 1919, first used on his Lancia Lambda in about 1922. The list of automotive design features that he invented or first applied to production cars is quite long - 4 wheel hydraulic brakes, inboard rear brakes, semi-trailing arm rear suspension, etc.

Japanese pickups and SUVs used separate frames until quite recently, and I assume the pickups still do.

 

the honda ridgeline is a unibody pickup but all other import trucks are frame and body
