First gen model kit

I've been searching high and low for a first gen model kit. I can't believe how hard it is to find one, if they are even out there. I did find a 300z for my brother, and asked the shop owner if he had any 7's. He just said, why would I want one of those? Needless to say, I don't shop there anymore, but has anyone come across a model kit?

I was going to chop together a few. There is a Testors, i think, that has a detailed engine bay, and then there is a Tamamiya that is a perfect series 3 outer shell (left hand drive tho), w/ gsl-se rims.

But i got something else instead.

Here's a good site with lots of RX-7 model info:
Eric7 Site

The two best models are the Monogram and the Tamiya. Both are 1/24 size. The Monogram is a reissue, a nice SA with good engine detail. Pretty common on ebay for $10 or so. Details from eric7's site on the nice LH drive 12A powered SA are here.

The Tamiya is also a reissue, but harder to find. It's a FB (rare enough) but also an SE! However, no engine detail. It's also RH drive and has the fender-mounted mirrors. I filled in the slots for the mirrors and left them off. My understanding is that supplies are exhausted and Tamiya is about to do another production run. Details on the kit from eric7 are here.

In the past both could be purchased at SpeedNation but a check a few moments ago shows neither on their site.

I just found another SA reissue at HobbyLinkJapan tonite. Kinda cool Cafe Racer kit, no engine detail. It's from Fujimi

Finally, here's a first Gen diecast that I'd love to get. It's only found in Japan; comes in black, white, and brown too. I can't find business who ships it to the US.
Mtech FB . If anyone has a source let em know! I found one dude who wants $60... maybe a group buy would bring down the price. Anyone?

I've got all generations and a rotary engine on a stand, model kits. I got all of them done except for a 3rd gen. Just don't have the time because it is very time consuming...it's has been like a few years actually.

I agree, even the Datsun 240z is extremely easy to find, heck Wal-mart carries it. FB's are rare. I'll probably just settle for ordering one from Japan like everyone else I keep watching the shelves around here for an RX-8

The best kit of a gen 1 is the 1/24 Tamiya 'Savanna RX.7' which is a J spec 83 GSL with sunroof and rear spoiler. There is a choice of wheels. Their kit no is 24016-1400.

It's RHD with Jspec mirrors. However, its easy to convert the interior to LHD.
