finding TDC

i just finished putting together a 12a block. is it true that its approx DTC when the keyway for the e-shaft is facing the egshuast side? whats a good easy way to find approx TDC?

Not sure how to do it with the flywheel off, but with it on (you can slide it on without actually bolting it if you have to) there will be a flat side on the flywheel. Align the flat side of the flywheel with the flat side of the engine, where the ports are, and you have TDC. You can take off the side inspection plate if needed.

ok well the flat part i think ur talking about is on the rear on the flywheel correct? well in the middle of that flat part is the "key" for the shaft.

type in the search menu how to find TDC. youll see detailed pics on how to do this, it will square you all away.

the fly wheel way is one, but you are correct about the keyway for the front pullies on the s-shaft. when looking directly at the front of the motor, when the keyway is at 9 o'clock (facing the exhaust side), it is at TDC

I cant believe that the flywheel trick actually work!!! Whoever posted that trick must have been drunk or at least smoking some **** to be that observant.

yeah i did the keyway trick. than put on my front pulley onto the hub and the notches matched up perfectly
