Finally did the 2nd Gen DFI..... YAY!

tonight we finished up the 2nd Gen DFIS in my FB. WOW what a diference! I'm running a 650 carb on a streetport so it always feels rich, and at most partial throttle condiditons it feels like its flooding out. Not anymore though, that still happens occasionally but the smoothness is up 100% and i can DEFINILY feel an increase in torque. This Saturday is Dyno time so we will see what kind of Numbers it throws down. All in all i just wanted to say that for anyone thinking of doing this... it's worth the effort. Some of the write ups are a little vauge but once you get it all working, it's a world of difference.

Good to hear results like this. I've got the FC coil sitting here on the bench waiting to be installed. Next warm weekend, it'll go in. Where did you mount yours?

I mounted mine on the strut tower, where the fusible links were and moved the links to the front side of the tower. Just like stoops pic. I'm replacing those with a 2nd gen fuse box soon. Not sure where I'll mount that.

So the FC coil has 2 posts and acts like the two coils you use in DLIDFIS setup? (I noticed the partial bypassing of the dizzy)

This might be worth looking into if I can find FC coils locally in a part yard or something. Do you need extra ignitors or what? Details guys! Details!

the only part you need is the FC coil and some wires, there is a write up in the FAQ that has more details and pics of how to do it.

Very nice, guys!

vipernicus42, check out the FAQ. Also, yes, it sparks the leading plugs twice per rotor face like DLIDFIS. That means each leading plugs fires at its normal time, and then once more 180º later. This is also how FC and FD RX-7s run. It's a way to get newer RX-7 style ignition on '85 and older engines. In my opinion, it is far superior to the old single dizzy sparks of long ago. Even points ignitions can be upgraded to direct fire with an MSD box or Chrysler ignitor.

Oh, don't mind me. I find ignition stuff to be fun to mess with.

Here is some trivia for you. The 20B does not have two leading sparks per rotor face, even though it came out in '90 or so. I think the 13BRE did though (they were both in the JC Cosmo). Anyway, there is a way to get two leading sparks per rotor face on a 20B, and I'm going to test fire it after I get some other work done around here. I can't wait.
