I'm moving this discussion from Ncrosses build thread so as to not hijack his thread any longer. I took the advice on that thread and bought this stuff: Filling EGR port on my 12A-image-2701352510.jpg And, I need to put it in THIS EGR port on my replacement engine which is already assembled. If I try to sand out the paint so that it will attach correctly, I'm not sure how I'd keep the sand and filings out of the engine. Any suggestions?

Or, am I overthinking it?

Don't worry about the paint. Tape over any area you don't want the QuickSteal on/in. Once you fill the hole, use a straight edge to remove any that is protruding before it dries then remove the tape.

Use a dremel with garnet stone to clean the iron. Then vacuum the particles.

Unless you have an '80 California engine, you don't have EGR.

Excellent advice, thanks KC! I got the feeling that I was overthinking this thing a bit too much, but I feel better about getting the advice of the forum members here.

I was thinking if I did sand or grind the area that I could rotate the engine so the port is on the bottom, and maybe hold my shop vac there as I sanded or used my dremel to prepare the surface. I that's when I thought I could be overthinking things. Would hate for this engine to go kaput because I put sand, grit, and metal shavings in there... It's an Atkins rebuilt from the local PnP and I hope it runs really well when (and IF) I get around to putting it in and firing it up.

I really have no idea how I would figure that out. Well, that's not true. I could look in my FSM or spend time on the forum and research it. More correctly stated, I really don't know off the top of my head how I would figure that out. There is still LOTS for me to learn about these cars. Seeing Cookboy's 85 this weekend though has really got me wishing I had done more to get it done than I have.

One step at a time. One. small. step...

EGR vs ACV

EGR is on top of the intermediate plate.

ACV is under the primary ports on the intermediate plate.

Wow, I couldn't have been more off. I'm glad I included the pictures then!

See, that's one of the reasons I love this forum. Lots of people willing to help out. Of course, I could have gotten a proper ID on this port had I done a little research, so I broke a Cardinal rule of the forum - research before posting - sorry!

I really appreciate everyone's help - thanks guys!
