Fender Linings - For the Racers
I have a question for the racers. I'm doing some weight reduction and general mtce this week and wanted to ask about fender linings. I don't know if there is a need to keep them. Do they help with air turbulence or anything much besides shielding the tires from throwing pickup marble everywhere? Do you keep yours or remove them?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

I know they protect the suspension from debris....but other than that - if you don't have brake ducts - removing them may help in cooling - but I don't know for sure.
FWIW - I'm looking to replace mine. If anyone is selling them - I need the two fronts. I lost some of the mounting screws and my liners rubbed on my tires and now half of the liner is gone....

only thing they seem to do on a street car is keep stuff (rocks, trees, etc) out of the door hinges

I may have a set for you! I'll take mine off in the next couple of days and see what shape they are really in. I know they aren't perfect.
I'm doing a bunch of work anyway so I'll remove them while I'm in there.

Those splash guards will help a lot with preventing rust around the fenders and upper load path beams. They keep little pieces of debris (sand, dirt, rubber, leaves) out of the nooks and crannies. If you plan to keep the car a long time and you drive in the rain a lot, you might consider keeping them. It's not much weight but a lot of benefit.
