"I live in the mountains and we have some nice drifting roads"????

someone has seen thrice fast thrice furious far too many times....so what happens when you **** up drifting in the mountains.......you reset and try again? NO you die (or at least get super fucked up)

Uhg......I knew this was coming.

As much as I like to encourage people to do the work themselves and learn about engine swaps and EFI transplants,I stick by my previous "jack ***" response of agreeing with xlr8planet about this swap.

Without actually doing it,you CANNOT properly appreciate the amount of work, money and preparation it takes to do a complete, safe and reliable turbo EFI engine swap into such a "rudementary" vehicle as the 1st gen.Our cars, when stock, and even when fairly modified, are not designed to safely harness the sheer power and complexity of the 3rd gen....a car that to this day,15 years after its release, is still praised as a real,every-man's supercar.
If you have to ask,in a short,2 sentence manner,"How hard is it to do",then you OBVIOUSLY have no experience with such work,I dont care if your a kid,an old man,a drifter,a baker or a candlestick maker.......your not ready to attempt this. Even if you have the skills and facilities, you obviously havent done the research on your own,or you would not have asked such a question in the first place.

If you think Im being an *******,then fine......but you might wanna check my and other's credentials, before mouthing off with a punk response filled with obscenities and disrespect.

Being only my 2nd ever EFI engine swap, surprisingly easy!

At the time (2001), I had never even seen a TII engine in person,so I spent about 3 months researching and gathering parts and diagrams.I wasnt too internet savvy at the time, and nobody on the Mazspeed website had done a TII swap yet,let alone one with the stock ECU and smog gear.It only took a weekend to do and it ran perfectly right out of the box.The upgrade to an S5 engine shortly after was even easier and if that hadent turned out to be such a relible and fun 300HP setup,I might have considered going with an FD setup.

But,even knowing what I know now.......I would not even attempt an FD complete drivetrain setup. It basically requires a full committement to chopping your car up in order to properly install the IRS unit.If you dont have serious skills and facilites, youll never glean the full potential of the FD suspension, outside of the FD unibody. And you might just destroy your nice,rust-free FB unibody in the process.
Even just the FD engine is a chore to install, with its complexity.Theres a reason that MANY people have swapped TII engines, but only a handful have even tried the REW.........if he had properly researched it,FB Drifter X would have discovered this fact on his own.

Well thats handy info. I had thought about doing it ( a T2 swap since i have a t2 parts car in the yard with engine) but dont have the funds or time or knowledge at the moment.

Figured id get the 12A going strong and work on some other things before attempting any thing like that. So maybe in a few years.

And besides the only way to appreciate a t2 is to drive something slower lol.

I think we scared Mr drifter crazy dudebro away. Not overly concerned

Thats how I started.

Several 12A upgrades,a 13B with a Yaw carb,then the two TII swaps.
It was invaluble experience and it kept me out of trouble in my younger years. When the TII swap was done, even at stock-ish levels,it was scary faster than even my Yaw'ed 13B 4 port.Nowadays,300 crank HP is more than enough to get my relatively heavily optioned and weighed down 1st gen moving quick-like.

I cant imagine what it would be like with "only" 400HP.......its just more than you really need, ask someone who has a 400HP or more 1st gen.Anyone who wants 400HP for a simple drift and drive car,has probably NEVER driven in a 2500lb car with such numbers......its serious overkill on a car that can be a handful with as little as 150HP.

Well jesus, 250 is more than enough for a 2nd gen.....and they arent light cars

do you have a thread on the build of your car? Cuz i know youve done alot more than just a TII swap

It was such a long, complicated build that there isnt really just a thead.
Most of the mods and work was done long before I ever came to this site.I was a regular at the Mazspeed site since about 97,but once I got heavy into the mods with the TII conversion and the widebody, most of the disscusion over there wasnt relavent and I kinda outgrew the slower pace of that site,so I came here to just share and teach, since my project was and is, done.
I learned a LOT from Mazspeed and it was a great place to share info becuase most of the members were older, more serious owners.....kinda an old school group.....carbs,N/A work,"classic" type mods.I dont think anyone ever asked once about an IRS swap or anything of that nature. The guys there knew what worked on the 1st gen, just like the racers in the 70's and 80's knew......you didnt need IRS,twin turbos or nitrous to make these cars perform.
When you base your expectations and desires on contemporary performance standards and...... :cough:...... "trends"......then the 1st gen just isnt the gleaming gem it was 20-30 years ago.It takes mountains of work and tuning to get a 1st gen seriously up to par in regards to handling, reliability, braking, stability and general prowess that can be had from a car like the 3rd gen and other 90's era sports cars.....to say nothing about some of the incredibley capable cars made today, that are commonplace as any off the shelf car,but pack some serious hardware and technology right from the factory.
My buddies CTS-V is a perfect example......400HP factory, warranteed HP,ginormous brakes, awesome feedback, slick 6-speed and rock solid handling. Its one of the best club racing cars out there, just slap on different tires and youve got a serious racer with just a trip to the dealer to buy and zero wrench turning.
