FC brakes increase Track Width?

Hey Guys, I spoke to my mechanic today about my intensions to fit my Respeed BB kit with FC rotor hubs and FC rotors.

He said it would increase my "track width" too much and would be totally useless on the street, and stick out from the gards too much...............Is ths correct?

Can the FB rotors be used or are they a totally incompatible

quite a few people have done this, none reporting the problems your mechanic quoted... I actually want to increase my trackwidth, it's a handling thing. even if they do why is that a problem? you realize that if you can use FB rotors, that negates one of the advantages of the big brake kit, right? why are you buying big brakes to use small brakes?

what are gards?

He said that fitting the FC brake rotors and FC hubs would increase my track width? (gards are the wheel arches)

He said that my wheels would protrude beyond the wheel arch too far?

I have TII calipers so i was just calling to see if he had some TII hubs and rotors, he asked what i was fitting them to and i said my FB, then he went on to say it would increase my "track width" and would be ok for the track but hopeless on the street. I dont race so i only want them to be asthetic for car shows, but i dont want them sticking outside the wheel arch.

maybe it's an aussie thing, but we say guards

I'm sure someone else can give more detailed info to the exact .0001 of an inch, but i've NEVER heard of that problem (and i do an unhealthy amount of searching)`. if anything it'll just make your tires fit flush in the wheel wells. you have stock wheels?

you can always get fender flares, then your ride will be super cool.

Yeah lost in translation huh lol.

I dont think he completely understood, its not that common to go to so much trouble here. But i want to do it right the first time. and ive seen how they look on other forum members cars.

I have 17" ANZ wheels with low profile rubber, having the TII calipers and rotors would be fantastic and exactly what i want to achieve as the car will have close to 300Hp after turbocharging.

Also~~ Can TII rotors be machined to be slotted and drilled? or do they have to be purchased like that?

Its just i feel like im going to have to buy some used Rotors and hubs and just see for myself (just like everything else)

Thats not true on the wheel hitting hte wheel arches, the actualy mounting spot of the wheel might be a few mm out from the stock position, but how far out your wheels are will depend on the rim offset/backspacing.

I agree, i didnt think there would be signifigant width changes, the current offset i have is plenty for TII Calipers.

anything can be machined. if you stick with the 4 lug pattern you'll need to drill your tII rotors.

otherwise you can switch to 5 lug and get 5 lug rear axles.

Do you mean drill the 5 lug Rotors to accept my stock 4 lug hubs?

probably just easier and cheaper to go with new rims that have 5 bolt pattern as every time you need to change your rotors you'll need to get them redrilled.

yes, depending on how attached you are to your rims, that's what you'll have to do.

either get 5 lug rims, or drill your brake rotors to fit 4 lugs.

Im sorry to ask sooo many questions about this but your the only ones that give me straight answers without trying to make $$$$ out of it (im sure you understand) Most of the Custom shops ive contacted have been trying to tll me to get all this expensive custom engineering done and that its not worth it ect ect.

Thanks heaps guys, once again this forum is worth its weight in gold

So the stock FB hub (4 lug) will mate with the FC rotor (5 lug) if i get it drilled to suit. Also i can use my Re-speed BB kit with my TII calipers. (yes im rather attached to my 17" ANZ wheels lol) Is this correct?

Your mechanic has obviously never looked into our kit. He may be thinking of the second gen subframe swap.

At any rate, the BB kit does use TII calipers. It also uses the FC hubs, FC Rotors. Your stock hub/rotor is not used at all.

You say you are attached to your 17" wheels? What bolt pattern are they? What width and offset are they?

Our kit will change the bolt pattern to either 5 lug or 4 lug, 4.5" bolt circle - depending on the hubs that are used.

Our kit puts the wheel flange within .0325" of stock. In suspension track width numbers that is a minuscule amount.

Just to build on what billy said, if I'm not mistaken gsl-se's have the same 4 lug pattern as 4 lug FC's. So if you run an -se bolt pattern now, while you will need new hubs, you can retain your wheels.

If you run the older pattern... maybe billy can figure something out, he's magic ya know.

you should just post a pic of what you have on right now ... will resolve alot of problems.

Also you can search for other thread of people that have done it. Here's one with a spacer on it to accept his rims:

LOL! It was good.
Well here's my question. I want FC breaks in the front but I'm very attached to the 4 sets of 4x110 rims I have. Is there a way to do it with your stuff Billy? What do I need from you, and what do I need to get myself? My tax refund is estimated on the 6th of February!!! I currently have the 4 pot calipers and new pads, so i've got a start.

What do you want hubs for? the kit doesn't require the whole hub, you just need calipers, rotors, and pads.
