FB Windshield Wiper Connector / Pin

Firstly, I apologize for starting so many threads, but I've searched and found little information on this. Surely this will be helpful to someone else. What's the deal with the wiper connecting pin on these cars? The pin is on the blade rather than the arm like it seems every other car. Can I only purchase specific wipers that have this pin with them? I just purchased a set of Rain-X Latitude, which according to their website would work, but they do not include a pin. Do I need to remove the pin from my old wipers, it does not seem to be removable. Maybe I'm just stupid, but I'm failing to see something here.

From searching I see people modifying the arms to a modern hook style connector, and I found at least one thread with people complaining about the pin, but found no solution. Perhaps the solution is to buy a different brand that is compatible. Annoying that Rain-X would not do any research ahead of time if these really do not work.

Any wiper blade-assy I have bought always came with a dozen diff adapters, including the pin-style bits.
So this should not be a problem? odd. Try a diff brand, pop the package and fit them right there at the auto store, so you aren't making a lot of trips.

I have found a few blades that don't have the pins included so I used the old ones. They are for the most part all the same.

Right, and a handful of blades say to reuse the pin. How is this done? Is the pin even removable from the old blades? It seems like its welded to the blade. I think what's on there now are the OEM blades. Maybe I've just got to get another brand...

I just got my RX-7 last weekend and had to replace the wipers right off the bat. I had the exact same problem you seem to be having. You should be able to pop that pin out and shove it into the new wiper. Mine had holes for the pin, but didn't come with the pin.

Once you disconnect the wiper, the pin should still be attached to the wiper. I took a screwdriver and was able to pop it out of the old wiper and put it into a new one. After that, just reattach it using that same tab on arm you used to disconnect it.

It took me forever to figure this out.

I too tried this, and simply managed to slightly bend the pin. What do your blades look like? I'm wondering if a previous owner replaced the blades at some point, tossed the original pin and managed to find some blades that included the pin.

Ah, I see. Mine looked very different, and I feel like the pin on mine were thinner, maybe.

There's a guy on YouTube who did a series of RX 7 videos, Powersport, I think? Anyway, he had a video on the wipers and I believe he had to get a different set of wipers that had the pin included. His old ones had the pin riveted in and couldn't remove them. Not sure which brand they were, though.

Okay, well at least I've gotten to the bottom of this then. Looks like I'll either have to find a new pin, buy wipers that come with pins or modify the connector. At least I know now. My only guess is that the previous owner tossed the old pin when they replaced old wipers with new wipers that included an integrated pin.

Ha - same issue. Has anyone found a brand that works out of the box?

Yea, or does anyone know if you can buy the pins separately anywhere? I was hoping to be able to use more "modern" wipers, because honestly the old metal kind don't work as well as the newer ones.

I did this awhile back, and forgot to post updates. The combination that ended up working for me was buying a generic wiper at NAPA. These wipers included a pin that fit into the wiper arms on my FB. I was able to connect the Rain-X wiper blades that I had purchased previously. This combination seems to work pretty well. The blades don't seem to fit as tightly to the windshield as they would perhaps on a modern car, but possibly the weird angle of the FB windshield or the lack of tension on the arms is to blame. In retrospect, I would have purchased one size larger for the blades, I think stock is 17" on both sides, and I would have went to 18", because there seems to be plenty of clearance for larger blades. Kind of sucked to have to buy the NAPA blades just to get the pin, but it was a good option for me wanting to move away from the OEM style to the modern one-piece blade style that works better in my opinion.
