FB roll cages, need a PA local car for measurements.

Anyone with an FB near Spring City PA

I have been following a group buy thread for RX7 roll cages but the company doesn't have an FB on its list. I contacted them and they state they will make one for us, but the best manner is to have a car drop by their office to be measured up.

Here is the link to the group buy in RX7V8 forum

The deal seems excellent, but we need a car to visit these dudes so we can all get a decent cage at a decent price.

Steve, fwiw, Competition Engineering makes an 8 point cage for the 1st gens. The main hoop needs to be trimed, then one uses the universal strut, door bar and roof hoop kits to finish it out. Not sure of the total cost, but it's the same one I have in the widebody

I wonder which will be/would be/is more cost efficient. I wouldn't mind having a cage inside my car. Tho, price is always a concern for me.

When I installed my roll bar, I made a mockup of the main hoop out of EMT for a test fit before I did any cutting or welding. Here's a couple of pics of the mockup tacked in place. I saved it in case I needed to install another roll bar. The outside dimensions of the mockup match the the outside dimensions of the roll bar. Btw, I still have hopes of seeing my TII hood scoop soon so I can sell that hood, hint hint.

The EMT, electrical metal tubeing, is used as a pattern from which the final roll bar/cage is duplicated from. At around 4 bucks a lineal foot for DOM tubing, mistakes can get expensive quickly.

These guys do a 10 point cage for just over $200, but that doesn't include installation, seems like a great deal to me.

If that's the price for a pre-bent, pre-cut kit, that's, not bad at all. For comparision check the cost of the Comptetition Engineerig kit. Also check if each kit is DOM tubing or chromemolly. Chromemolly is smaller in diameter and stronger.

I can't really tell from the pictures, but does the cage include bars that extend from the hoops down towards the front footwells beside the seats?

Swingout bars. Damn, why didn't I think of that? I'll have to keep that in mind.

According to mapquest they are like 2 hours away from me, I wonder how long they would actually need the car, and what they would actually do to it....

Guys,

I totally forgot about this thread. I do have the guys number and will contact him asap. Unfortunately I'm out of town for the next two week.

If someone can shoot me a PM to remind me around 1/25. I will make the drive out to his shop that weekend.

Sorry
