fb as first car

so what do you think about having an fb as your first car? i know you might think it might be too maintenance-ish as a first car, but I baby everything that I have and i'm always worried that i'm not taking good enough care of things, people wonder why stuff lasts me so long, and I have a friend down the road that i've known all my life thats a mechanic that has worked on rotary's that can teach me stuff. the only thing i'm concerned about is insurance prices, i was thinking that since its so old it might be considered a classic car and insurance might be alot cheaper, but i dont know how old it has to be to be a classic car, can anyone tell me? I could always just have it in my moms name but the IRS is watching her income and everything because she had a business that went bankrupt and all the debt went with her, and she couldnt pay the taxes, and they will probably take a 2nd vehicle if she has one.

I think it's a great choice! My FB is my first car. I kept it stock for over a year, then put the turbo on it It's still my only car, but I do have another one to drive until I find a daily driver too.

Insurance wan't too bad, I think it was about $100 a month for me when I was 16.

Hmm. I should talk to someone that has one today and is 16-17, since the insurance prices probably changed alot

The FB was my first car. Its a great choice. Very reliable, has enough get up and go to kick the **** out of most civics, and is unbelieveably cheap on insurance. My friend pays more on insurance than me for his ghetto *** '81 ford pickup.

Now if the insurance companies knew what I had under the hood, they'd probably **** their pants.

Again its a fantastic choice for a first car.

That was last year, I'm 17 now. But it was on my parents policy. My car by itself was only $50, but it also bumped up the other 2 cars on the policy $25 each since I was added as a driver.

My seven is was my first car (and remains my summer car)...
I'm 19 now and have had it on the road on and off (read: summer) since I was 17.
Insurance is not cheap as it was classified as a sports car... $100+/mo
But definitely worth it :-)
Just get the bare minimum and see if your parents are willing to have you on their insurance for a while...
Also, insurance companies will do deductions for driver's ed. (which I never did) and good GPA (which saves me $100 every once in a while)

I would definitely recommend it as a first car :-)

The 83 was my first car and continues to be my daily driver. I don't do maintenance for **** and it has never stranded me. I'm fixing to bring it into the shop and put all new suspension, brakes, and steering in it. It's way past due, and the front rotors are warped to ****... the whole car shimmies and shakes whenever I get on the brakes hard.

I can't remember what my insurance was, but ~$100 a month was enough to cover the 83, the racecar, the Taurus, and the Porsche, so I would imagine just the 7 would be considerably cheaper.

Classic car insurance is only cheap because you can only drive it on the weekends and after 6pm on weekdays. Plus they usually dont insure people under 25 because it is too high risk, they want old people that THEY think will treat a car carefully.

Yep. I'm 66 with 3 FBs and pay $600 per year. Guess AAA figures I'm too old to do much more than wobble down the road with my nose in the windshield and hunched over the steering wheel. Heh heh heh.

Maybe if you used proper grammar and punctuation I might be bothered to read your post.

Going by the title I take it you're interested in an Rx-7 as a first car? I think it's a great choice. If you know anything about cars they're simple to maintain and work on. Especially once you get rid of the rats nest and excess crap in the engine bay.

Was going to tell you to search but I changed my mind. Basically it's all the emissions gear.
