Question fb cranks but doesnt start

I'm having a problem with my FB...IT WON'T START ! It has plenty of gas, and when it turns over it hits every now and then, but it will not start. Give me any suggestion you have.

Are you getting spark, check ignitors, how do you know you have plenty of gas?

Clean out the Gas lines coming from the Gas tank. Replace the Fuel filters. Listen for the Fuel pump when you turn on the car. Make sure the Spark plug wires are firmly on the spark plug. Make sure the spark plugs are actually working. If fouled out, clean off the spark plugs.

I would start by seeing if fuel is coming through the lines. Get a bucket and unattach a fuel hose from the fuel pump. aim the hose toward the bucket and when turn the key on but dont crank. Then move to ignition.

Well, that was the first thing i checked. I then added about 3 more gallons just for good measure. when you take off the breather, i can see the gas in the carb

Remove plugs and check to see if there is a visible spark first.

These cars flood pretty easily, and deflooding is a specific process......

use the search feature to locate the deflooding procedure, you can check spark and deflood at the same time, but be very careful of fuel and spark.....its happened before.....

Rotary engines get excess fuel inside and they wont start no matter what unitl you deflood them, check the plugs for excessive fuel.

i don't believe so, because with a bad ground it would drain the battery, right?

Not to sure about the first gen but my 86gtu had the same symptoms and it ended up being the braided ground from the firewall to the engine.

No but she would act like a bad battery and crank slowly or not at all, bad grounds are common but not from your description.

ok, what about the carburetor floats. i had that problem 2, it was flood and would try 2_start but then woulod nto turn over. may check and see if ur primary flot is set at 16mm + or - 0.5 and the secondary should be at 51mm + or - 0.5. i got mine set and it started right up til it got warm and the it would die b/c it have low compression. so anything think i am wrong plz tell me. i can take it like a man lol

it turns over alright, and by the sounds of it i am still getting compression, so i think that will knock out the bad ground idea

Welcome to the forum.

Need to start at the beginning. Before I steer you in any direction I need info.
First of all, was this car running before?
2nd. If so, was it driven, then shut off and then it would not re-start? And if so, how long did it sit before you went to drive the car?

He needs to deflood it like aussie said. I've flooded mine and had to get a jump. Sounded like a blown rotor untill I floored it and it burnt the oil off.........

Anywase do what aussie said, search about the flooding issue. hes your ignition guy.

Most likely it's flooded. Take out a plug or two and look for evidence of fuel. Before replacing plug check for spark.

Hey, ckaler, did you solve your problem?
