Exhaust Temp Sensor??

Hi all...first I want to thank all of you for helping me through my RX7 journey...it's been a riot!!!

1985 GSL - So.....I have ordered the whole RB exhaust system (header, pre-silencer, muffler). Definitely on back-order as I don't expect it until early Sept and I ordered it a month ago...oh well..it has given me time to remove the old exhaust system. Because the gods of nuts/bolts looked favorably upon me, the manifold came off with no broken bolts/nuts (thank goodness!!). So I am attacking the rest of the system. The section of pipe directly behind the cat has to be re-used. It has a wire, with braided shielding going into it. I am assuming this is the exhaust temp sensor. I tried every trick I know to unbolt it (torch, Kroil for 3 days, etc.) but I just start to twist the tube it's mounted on. My question is, because I am removing the cat, is this sensor required and can I just cut the wire?

I cut mine and pulled it through the floor under the seat. I plugged the hole in the floor and welded a patch on the pipe.

The exhaust temp sensor measures the temperature in the exhaust system and if it detects its out of range, will illuminate a light on the instrument cluster that states "overheat exhaust system". You can remove the temp sender and wiring without issue and plug the hole as mentioned above.
