exhaust idea
So, I have an FB with a freshly built 12A streetport, and I need to get a free flowing exhaust to make the most out of it. My plan is this: RB road race header, 2 resonators, and a magnaflow, all with 2.5" thickwall steel piping. However, I want to make this thing even more badass than it already is, so I was thinking of doing an electronically controlled muffler bypass cutout and a 2.5" sidepipe powder coated flat black running along the passenger side rocker panel and dumping before the rear wheel. Besides the fact that it'll be loud as hell when I open it up, any thoughts on the idea?

Other than it may perform worse when opened up like that but it depends.
Plus it will be so loud that its an instant ticket and probably too loud for a track session even.
But go ahead and read this thread as its got a ton of good references and info in it.

It will be extremely loud. I had to drive about 2 miles with open headers and even shifting by 2k it was so loud every person who was outside turned to see what was so loud. I had a headache after 5 min. If you are looking for some attention you will definetely get it. Good luck

Loud is ok, if the noise is at least pleasant. Rotary noise is rather coarse and annoying, though, so yeah, people will turn heads, but not because the think it sounds cool - no, it'll be because they want to see who's the obnoxious jerk.

At Pocono, I once unbolted my muffler to lose 30lbs, and hopefull free up some hp. Even with a race helmet on, that thing was stupid loud and I could not ear anything over the helmet radio. It did not make me any faster either, just pissed off eveyone at the track.
The best way I have found to tone down the loud-*** rotary sound is with a device called a turbo. I hear it has other benefits too, but I primarily use it so that I can run 3" piping all the way back with just a small muffler before the bumper--works great! Without one of those though, I don't think it would be a good idea.
A couple video from that event. Unlike what my narrating girlfriend says, it is not awesome. Notice how the sound carries from like a mile away. There were Nascar cars there that day, and my car was louder. It sounded like a drunk helecopter:
