You wouldn't see any gains by removing the exhaust sleeve in a stock port motor. In fact you wouldn't see any gains unless you're running a huge ported motor because the flow is restricted by the port shape and size, not that sleeve.

I dunno on a 12A , but on a 13b 4 port they are pressed in and retained with a standard roll pin, you have the have the housings diasembled to remove the roll pins

i believe they are attached the same way on a 12A because i've heard them rattle when they are loose. you have to take the motor apart to get them out.

however, as nimrodTT pointed out, there is little (if anything) to be gained by removing them. you will be allowing more heat to radiate through the rotor housing than is desireable ... and that would spell LOSS, sooner or later.

They are roll-pinned, but I can think of at least a few ways to remove them with the engine together. But just to warn you, the will port velocity will be decreased and I would be surprised if you didn't lose power by removing them.

If you remove the sleeves and do no porting at all then you will lose power everywhere. Leave them in.
