engine will only idle when choked (12a)

subject says it all,

out of the clear blue sky I got this problem. I can get the car to start and run if the choke is pulled. when I open the choke the car sounds like it is over sucking air into the carb and in stumbles once then dies. I had made no adjustments and everything was running great up until this point. I have checked for vacuum leaks and could not find any. any ideas? BTW I have done the emissions removal.

Thanks.

Lol, at least yours *idles*... mine will only run when choked, but at 3000rpm.... not exactly idling. If you don't have any vacuum leaks, you've got me.

If you leave it choked will it stay running? And if so will it stay running after it warms up?

ensure you put enough sealant on the ACV block-off plate, and make sure you capped off all the hoses you removed, to include hoses still attached that you forgot to re-connect (crank-case breather)

Also, check the hose for the brakes.. it's on the passenger side. it cracks easily and does the same thing... it likes to crack right where it bends.

good luck.

tif it was a vacume leak that would probably explain that "over suckign air" sound. try and get under the car and see if you can figure out where the sucking noise is comin from may lead you to a cracked or loose hose.. or may lead you to the crab and ill feel like a idiot either way cant hurt to check

I thought vacuum leak also. All parts are in place, I will check for more dubious leaks when I get a chance.
