Engine Teardown Pictures (first time being inside the rotary)

Well everyone a few days ago I decided to pick up an engine from the pick N' pull in edmonton. It's a 12A and I grabbed it out of a 85' GSL, automatic, the OD read 211,000km's +/-, and got it for just over a 100 bucks, came with intake, carb, water pump, seloniods.
So for the last couple days I tore it apart and have been cleaning it up slowly. Yesterday when I was cleaning the rotor housings I found out that they had tears, like rips out of the metal right along the edges at the bottom of the housings I believe, I havent measured the front, int., and rear plates.
Anywho heres the pictures...

Anyways hope you guys like the pics.

Yeah the corner seals were packed full with carbon buildup, and underneath the apexes there was carbon build up especially on the spring. One other thing, in the manual it says not to use to harsh of a brush to get off the carbon that is on the rotor faces, what do you guys use to get off the real stuck on ****? And now that I stated the coner seals piled up with carbon, that leads me to the conclusion that it was that **** that took the tears out of the housings, cause the little piece of the apex couldnt move very much or not as freely as it should, and becasue the carbon that built up beneath the spring also lead to more upward pressure and not letting small peice of the apex set down properly. ah what you can learn when you think about it for awhile.
Thanks, Dennis.

Sounds harsh but try to find some aircraft paint remover. Your automotice specialty paint stores will probaly have it and maybe even an auto store. Put a good coat on the area and let soak in. Sont do the whole rotor at once since this is some pretty strong stuff. The fumes will get you. 5x5 sections would be fine then rub it off with a wet green scrub pad. Use a bucket of fresh clean water to rinse the pad. I'm not to sure about using naval jelly. Be sure to oil it up afterwards or it will rust up on you.

Or find a place that does acid or chem dips. A machine shop usually has then and can do them for cheap.

I followed the RotaryAviation.com rebuild video. They recommended dipping them in carb cleaner overnight, so that's what I did. Came out great.

In the DIY-13bre video it recommends using Gasket remover for removing carbon followed by using parts cleaner and a stiff brush.

I should also mention that its interesting to see that you also live in Alberta. Awesome how many rotary guys there actually are around here, I would've never known.

Does the video say anything about that stuff eating/not eating the bearing material. If it does, then new rotor bearings are in order, and thats not always a good thing.

Carb cleaner is absolutely safe for those bearings.

Great, but I do see one problem. Don't worry there is a fix though. Your ports are too samll. Attack them with a die grinder and it should fix the problem.
Merry Christmas

Thanks for the advice guys, I havent been doing nothing for the last few days, with christmas and all, and plus i got a PS2 the other day so ive been givener hard core on that thing. Ya I live back and forth between Alberta and Saskachewan been going to school in saskatoon and working in lloydminster. Now school has become a lsat priority and work somehow got to #1 so ill be back working making some cash so i can work on my cars. I got some ignitors from that junkyard so ill be able to get my black 81 going probably come spring time, cause i have the engine out of it and mom and dad will probably flip out if i bring it into there garage again. Tommorrow i might try and get that carbon **** off the rotors.
