Engine swapping wiring questions...

Hey guys,
My project car is a GSL-SE so it offiously had the fuel injected 13B, but that has long since been torn out and sold before the body of the car was sold to me. So my plan is to temporarily swap in my 12a motor from my GSL, until I have enough money to build up a TII motor to make some serious power. Oh yes, I forgot to mention the downloadable wiring diagrams link in the FAQ is not working (dead link)...

Anyways my question is, is it ok for me to yank most of the wiring harness because im going to be using the 12a motor or should I retain most of the harness for the time being? Does swapping a TII motor is require that you retain any of the electrical? And if so what? As far as sensors and stuff go for hooking up the 12a motor should I just transfer the connectors and stuff over from the other car or what is the best way of doing this?

Thanks alot I appreciate the help

If you are stealing the engine from the GSL, take the harness and ecu also. Install it the same way it came out, and remove whatever the carb harness replaces. Switch the fuel pumps while your at it too. Keep the old harness and ecu intact. You may not need to use it again, but someone else may.

Leave the SE wiring alone for now.No need pulling it out and regretting it later. If your not trying to make the 12A smog legal,it wont need much of anything electrical to run.If the 12A does have to be factory complete, then youll have a bit of work to do.

The FC engine swap will require you to remove all the engine wiring on the passenger side, and replace it with a TII harness that goes from the engine to the ECU.That is 80% of the wiring and its plug and play.

The remaining wiring for the TII engine is on the drivers side and it must be measured, laid and wrapped prior to install between the ECU and engine components. Its about 10-15 wires depending on if your S4 or S5.Controls things like coils,ECU power, fuel pump,CAS(S4 only) and a few others. The majority of the pins on this ECU gang plug are not used and can be removed. The aforementioned systems are critical to opertation however.Get an FC main relay to power up the ECU if you havent already.

DO NOT,DO NOT,DO NOT cut or splice anything on the FB chassis harness'.Its completely uneccesary, the entire 2nd gen EFI engine is capable of running on its own two dedicated harness. The only place where the new wiring will merge with the old is at the fuse junction box.You should be using an FC block fuse box under the hood with this swap.Youll need the extra outlets to power the EGI,ECU and the rest of the car.Its a thousand times better and more convienient than the 1st gen's fusible links.....

Ive done both a S4 then a S5 TII swap into my 84.Both 100% complete, both CA smog legal and factory reliable. Its not hard if you use the FSM as a guide and study up.Knowing what your looking at before you start, makes all the difference.
