Engine swap question(Not TII related!!)

Okay guys I feel like a noob all over again. I did some searching and haven't quite found my answer. What I would like to do is take a 79 SA 12A and put it in my 83 FB while using the FB clutch(it's an RB with less than 500 miles on it). Will I need to use the FB flywheel? If so will I need to use a different counterweight? I probably know the answer but I'm tired and thinking way too hard. Thanks guys

You need to match the flywheel with the motor. Otherwise the motor wont last due to each flywheel being made specifically for each motor's rotor size. The 83-85 rotors weigh less than the 79-82 rotors.

Check this out...it might help

Thanks for the links. They say they mix and match the 215mm and 225mm clutches all the time. So does this mean I can use my 225mm clutch with the 79 flywheel and pressure plate? Just looking for a little clarification. All I basically want is to be able to use my RB 225mm clutch but If I can't no big deal.

79-82 has the 215mm clutch and the 83-85 has the 225mm, I assume if you want to use the 83 clutch you would need the matching sized flywheel but as mentioned above the rotors are different so would any of the stock flywheels even work?

I remember Jeff20B discussing something along these lines. Try looking thru his posts.

Yeah I did a little more searching, and it appears as though a stock 215mm flywheel can only accept a 215mm clutch. An aftermarket should be able to use either. That's a bummer but oh well. As another question, the FB's oil pan is the same as the SA's with the exception of the oil pressure switch in the FB's pan correct? I want to swap my FB pan on the SA motor so the guage will still work in the cluster
