engine swap '85

question i have a '85 RX7 with a 12A carburated engine, and i was wondering if i could switch the 12A motor with the motor from '85 RX7 GSL-SE with out to much trouble

not too much. change the ecu, the wiring harness, and the engine.....

easy. the ecu is under te passenger carpet. easy, like 6 nuts. the harness just plugs in to the tock 13b SE.

would it be easier to just rebuild the engine it is in pretty good looking condition the harness is just pretty much disconnected

i have never really even looked under the hood of a rotary vehicle, i usually stick to the piston engines

the car only has RX7 badges on it but the NADA book lists it as both

i can't remember but i think it was drums, it was on blocks and there was some rust(alot) on the brakes. i was busy checking out the engine and the interior

if it was drums it was a gs. if you are considering a 13B swap. you may want to choose a gsl.

i am glad you are tracking. it is pretty easy. you will need to send the housings out to be lapped and the rest you can inspect yourself and repair. its not that hard, especially if you have the factory service manual

will a haynes do just as well or do they generalize between the different engines like they do on my saturn haynes manuel

they generalize a tad. you'd be better off dowloading the factory service manual or buying it. it would be cool if you had the fsm in addition to the haynes manual

also if i reconnect the wires will i be able to try and start it up or should i go ahead and rebuild. i have no idea how long it has been sitting there but it does not look like it has been there that long and the engine is pretty much clean

search the forum for the fsm for the download. i dont know what wires you are trying to connect. but, they most likely will be emissions. i am peacing out. good luck. pm me for more info email me. i wil help you in the am. i am drunk and need sleepy
